right you people get on my nerves. MOST OF HER CUSTOMERS nah nah nah blah blah blah. ALL HER CUSTOMERS HAVE BEEN HAPPY AND SATISFIED AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS ok.....get it!
I have just had an email from my friend a snippet of which I would love to share with you all. here it is:-
I actually spoke to my dentist a few weeks ago and asked her what her take was on non-peroxide whitening outside of the dentists, as we were trying to start up a new business in this area, and she replied Great! If we have insurance and aren't using bleach then she couldn't see a problem with it. Plus she said it keeps people out of her chair when she could be using the time to do 'proper' dental work.....
your views, if you please:)LBM: April 2009 - honest debt figure: Secured: £0.00!! (paid back april 2017) unsecured: £53117.48 (roughly) back with CCCS starting again:(0 -
Point her to gdc website. It's illegal. No dentist I know would be happy to let an unqualified person put a strong oxidising solution on the vulnerable tissues of the mouth . If it can change the colour of enamel no matter what it is it can cause terrible damage.
No dentist I know would trust a non qualified person to assess how healthy someones mouth is.
No dentist I know would condone something illegal.
Most dentists I know will have seen damage done as a result of whitening or clinical conditions ignored by illegal whiteners who have little idea of what a healthy or even diseased mouth looks like.0 -

No dentist I know would trust a non qualified person to assess how healthy someones mouth is. SHE HAS BEEN TRAINED ON WHAT TO LOOK FOR.
No dentist I know would condone something illegal.I THINK YOU ARE CLUTCHING AT STRAWS NOW

I dont think that you like the fact that her dentist was actually not bothered. I think that this has got ones back up.....:rotfl:LBM: April 2009 - honest debt figure: Secured: £0.00!! (paid back april 2017) unsecured: £53117.48 (roughly) back with CCCS starting again:(0 -
I can show you pictures of teeth eroded away by vimto, orange juice, stomach acid, lemon juice, fizzy drinks, chlorine from swimming pools.... Many things can erode enamel not just peroxide/dioxides. The damage can be done by many chemicals even the ones your friend uses. If it changes the colour of enamel it can damage teeth and soft tissues.
I am so glad your friend knows what to look for ... After years of study of oral anatomy, pathology, disease, general medicine, pharmocology and annual refresher courses, along with a full dental checkup ,xrays, pocket depth chart , medical and social history I think I have a fairly good idea if what to look for. I am glad that her hours course enables her to diagnose any of the mucosal diseases made worse by application of whitening substances. I am glad she can spot the subtle changes sometimes only visible on probing or x ray that denotes periodontitis that is a no no for any bleaching proceedure.
I am glad that she would recognise eg epidermolysis or lichen planus and I am glad she updates her knowledge of pharmaceuticals and general medicine so that she recognises those people who are on anticoagulants or undergoing chemo etc
I am astonished that you don't realise by now any substance put on peoples teeth by an unqualified person is potentially dangerous and is illegal.0 -
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: gotcha!
You answer has just confirmed what i have been thinking all this time.
I knew you would bite.........if another dentist is not bothered, then why should you be.
Oh and fyi, my friend did not train for like a 'an hour' as you put it.
I think this discussion on my part is over now. I am so glad my friend is not put off by the likes of you.
I feel really good about this...........goodnight:)LBM: April 2009 - honest debt figure: Secured: £0.00!! (paid back april 2017) unsecured: £53117.48 (roughly) back with CCCS starting again:(0 -

I would be interested to know how long her "teaching" on oral medicine, pharmacology, general medicine and oral anatomy was as the courses I have seen advertised devote as much time to this as marketing, promotion and product placement and pricing. The longest course I've seen lasts a day!!!
However much training she has had or not doesn't stop what she is doing being illegal and potentially dangerous which is why the BBC, newspapers, the department of health in England, the Welsh Assembly, Which, trading standards and the GDC are all concerned about illegal whitening of teeth by non dentists/hygienists/therapists.0 -

It will continue to be practised as I said, whether you two like it or not!
Looking at your posts I think actually I was pretty close to your viewpoint with that pic.
Like it or not? Well its not really up to me. Its up to the law makers of this fair land if they feel its allowed or not ... and looking at the details I have seen of late in the press THEY dont like non dentists doing tooth whitening. Would you want a dentist doing a nose job on you?
Tooth whitening can be a damaging process "whether you like it or not". Who exactly do you think the "client" is going to ask to see to get the work fixed if something DOES go wrong?? Is your friend going to be able to place the appropriate restorations should they be necessary? Apply the appropriate desensitisers, refer on to appropriate advanced services? Can your friend spot who would and wouldnt be suitable for tooth whitening? Can your friend spot those with one of the many forms of gum disease for whom tooth whitening would be an excruciating experience due to the exposed dentine? Can your friend clean off the lumps of calculus that would prevent the active ingredients contacting the tooth surface to work (or not)?
Incidentally much of my objections in this thread have ACTUALLY been about people being sold a treatment on the assumption that it works when in fact it doesnt. Dont you think that if I could get some magic gloop that when smeared on teeth and an LED light was shone on it making teeth magically whiter I would be more than a little interested in it?? Not just the fact its so simple and easy but also because it can be done so cheaply for my patients??
Well the fact is I DONT use it because it doesnt work! What works consistently in pretty much everyone its used on appropriately is .... custom trays to fit the teeth and the use of a carbamide peroxide gel used under my instructions with regular reviews. I want to use something that I am confident in because personally I dont want to have to deal with an irate patient because their teeth went back to their original colour the day after I shone my light on them!
Why before you started yor postings, assuming we had too many vested interests to be objective, a posted said that yes, indeed, they in house light system was for them, "a waste of money"
To be honest, If I never did any more whitening ever again, I would be missing out on peanuts in cash terms so its hardly a game breaker for me. All I care about is people making the right informed choices with all the information. I also care massively that people do not naively undertake a procedure and end up damaged as a result.0 -
on the subject of a dentist making those comments jasper .... you have written some text and said a dentist said it. You are expecting us to believe a person that still absolutely refuses to accept that thier friend is undertaking the act of illegal dentistry. So on the basis of this trust you expect from us, you are going to have to take ME on this same level of trust.
I as a dentist in south wales have got a tooth whitening "salon" that has opened 100 metres from my practice. I have had numerous people asking about it and my line is the same. It is the illegal practice of dentistry but if they still wish to proceed at their own risk, I firmly believe that anyone claiming a light and a sloppy solution will whiten their teeth 5 shades in an hour is at best misinformed. I explain that I can provide them the same result for free if they let me put my lip retractors on them for 30 minutes while I blow air on their teeth!
I also send them to the following page
http://www.gdc-uk.org/Dentalprofessionals/Standards/Pages/Tooth-whitening.aspx
I would especially like to draw your attention to the first paragraph
"The practice of dentistry is limited to GDC registrants. It is the Council’s view that applying materials and carrying out procedures designed to improve the aesthetic appearance of teeth amounts to the practice of dentistry. So too does the giving of clinical advice about such procedures. Therefore all tooth whitening procedures, including bleach and laser treatment, are seen as the practice of dentistry by the General Dental Council."
SO before you go all lalala not listening again I would like to highlight that they are not limiting it to just using bleach and laser ... ALL procedures. That includes your friends "ITS NOT BLEACH OR PEROXIDE OR DANGEROUS"0 -
I wasnt going to bother replying anymore, but I think I will just this one time.
Welshdent......you can choose to believe me or not with regards to the dentists comments, I dont really care. I am not a liar. and for your information, she does not use some 'runny gloop' as you put it. she uses a gel which is not sloppy and for your information, it does work!!
She has been getting results of 8-10 shades whiter and people have been absolutely tickled pink. She knows full well that she cannot treat people with gum disease etc, (for which she has been given info on) its cosmetic pure and simple.LBM: April 2009 - honest debt figure: Secured: £0.00!!
