  • The bi-carb seems to work well (from what I've read), though of course every person is different.

Personally I believe you simply have to take care of your teeth.

Eat vegetables, low sugar foods, fruits (apples, bananas, pears), milk, and anything non acidy.

Pop drinks are chemically filled therefore they really "destroy" your outer enamel. Age does this as well :p

So always take care of what you eat ;).

Wish I would've known about the frothing at the mouth for halloween :p
  • Hi All
I've been using 16% carbamide peroxide with dentist-made custom-trays for 1 week and have only used one syringe (of the 4 supplied).

The brand I am using is "White dental beauty", which is supplied by optident.

Although my teeth are a lot brighter, they still don't look "white". Can anyone advise on the average time of treatment? My teeth were not very stained to begin with as I don't smoke or drink tea/coffe/red wine. Should I finish all 4 syringes?

    Am I just being impatient?

    Thanks :)

  • My sister has used baking soda on her teeth before and actually made them appear darker!! The best way to get lasting results is to use professional products. My dentist recommended Polanight to be around 3 years ago and I've been using it ever since. People always comment on my smile :) I also don't get any sensitivity afterwards (which some people have complained about). You can buy a Polanight home starter kit for about £25 and then buy refills once you've got your gum shield moulds which isn't too expensive.

Cheapest place I've found it online is whiteningbooth.com. But you can find great deals on marketplace websites like ebay too.

Hope this helps - happy whitening!!

    Samantha x:)

Does anyone know how Polanight compares with Enlighten Evolution? What is the difference between the 2 systems and which one is better? Thanks!

I'm wondering if any of the dentists can help me.

Before Christmas, I used Optident's "White dental beauty" 16% carbamide peroxide and wore it all night every night for around 4 weeks. Although my teeth were brighter due to stain removal etc, I don't feel they went "white". The sensitivity was also horrendous.

I then tried the NiteWhite 22% after reading reviews on this site, but results are much the same.

Can you recommend a certain brand of whitening gel that you have seen good results with please? I have customer trays from my dentist, but not very keen of purchasing more of the same product that gave me no real results.

I am not wanting Simon Cowell white teeth, but just want to get rid of the yellowness that is still there.:rotfl:

    Thanks :)

If you have paid for treatment from your dentist go back to them as there can be many reasons for treatment not being satisfactory. Purchasing and using multiple different solutions is not going to solve the problem.

However all teeth seem to have an end point they will not lighten beyond no matter what you do, and certain shades of teeth can be quite resistant and may take time.

Go back to your dentist because it may be that there need to be other changes than the solution particularly if you are suffering sensitivity which you need to discuss with them.

Apologies if this is something already dealt with here, but I'd like to know how to separate out the snake-oil teeth whitening clinics from the good quality ones.

My daughter wants her teeth whitened, but her dentist only offers a 16% home kit, which my daughter refuses to consider as she's too lazy to keep up the regime. She wants laser treatment, but we haven't a clue how to separate the good from the bad. She has marks on her teeth due to fluoride or something as a child, so I want to make sure that wherever she goes, she can get sensible and realistic advice as to what can be done to improve this.

The last thing I want is a £99-type special offer. Much better to pay more for quality service and advice.

She must see a dentist to do this. White patches on teeth can often be made worse by whitening.

Laser whitening is much less reliable and has less satisfactory results than using trays which are much more controllable. This is important if she has white patches.
