The enamel cannot regenerate but you may be able to get the teeth restored by your dentist with white filling material (composite). They would also be the best people to assess your gums.

    Hi

I know this is something i need to speak to my dentist about, but would value a bit of advice before i see him on Fri

I have tried to different teeth whitening systems :

1st one was 23% Carbamide Peroxide

    2nd one was 9.5 % Hydrogen Peroxide

1st one did not make much difference, 2nd made slight difference
When i see her on Fri what strength should i ask for

Also i know that crowns etc do not whiten

    Thanks

It's not up to you to 'ask' for a strength - it's for the dentist to make a professional judgement on which one is the most effective for you.

I know it's a different scale of thing, but you wouldn't go to a cardiologist and be expected to 'ask' for a particular brand or type of pacemaker, or an orthapedic surgeon and know which make of artificial hip you needed.

It's the same here. The dentist should make that decision. That's what you're paying for. If one doesn't work very well then it's up to him/her to either make sure you're using it properly or to switch to something dfferent.

In my experience though, it's more often patients not using it right than a problem with the material. Even then though, it's up to the dentist to make sure the patient knows exactly what they should be doing.

No-one on here can say which material is right for you. That's up to the person who's seen your teeth and has the training to deal with it.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

If it isn't working, your dentist shouldn't be selling it to you.

Having whitening done at the dentist is much dearer than just buying the components which (sadly) are available from other sources. The reason for it being dearer is because it's the dentist's expertise you're paying for, and in many cases - certainly at my place - we offer money back guarentees if we don't spot beforehand that it won't work for a particular patient.

If the dentist is charging you a premium for his professional opinion - then that's the opinion you should be using, not an internet chat room. If you're paying a premium for a professional service, and you're not getting a professional service - then it's time to make a fuss, or go elsewhere.

If you're just sourcing the stuff from t'interweb and trying to score a bit of cheap professional advice from dentists on this forum - I'm not playing!!! :D

Joewa, as previously advised you need to discuss this with your dentist only. Not sure that you are actually really bleaching your teeth at all as you claim to have been bleaching them since mid-january without any noticeable difference and yet will not contact your dentist with your concerns. I dont know many people wo would pay £300 for treatment and not query why it was not working 10 weeks down the line.

Also in your top post, one minute your dentist is male and then female?

It is also not necessary to start a new thread each time you want to discuss the same topic. It will get merged into the existing teeth whitening thread anyway.

Believe us, there isnt anyone here who can advise on the specifics of your case, we cant see your teeth.

Anyone know of any places for teeth whitening in Glasgow?

Also, perhaps one for Toothsmith, what system is best for whitening? Is it ok to go to a 'beauty salon' to get this done?

Also, what if I don't see a whole lot of difference once it has been done? Is there any comeback on this type of thing? I've seen signs before saying 'results may vary' ??

    Thanks!

No its not ok to go to a beauty salon as it is illegal for them to carry this out.

Why dont you start by asking your dentist?
