I did have to put details in but it says I won't be charged right away as I have a free month.

It's good that you got the free month.

As I stated in the above post, best not to subscribe through the Xbox itself. Certainly avoid the monthly subscription unless you only plan on allowing the Live account for a month or two past the free one.

It did ask me if I wanted to subscribe for a quarter or a year but I felt it safer to say month to month.

You're both obvious seasoned XBox-ers, can I ask, do you buy/rent games on it? On my travels through the system (thanks to you lot here) I noticed there were movies, music and stuff too? Have I just been sheltered from the world of the highly technical?

i wouldnt buy movies off the xbox 360 as this could eat into your download limit plus you only rent the movies for 24 hours i think(cheaper to go to blockbuster), the games i download are demos(forthcoming games and arcade style games), i also wouldnt buy music or games as they cna be costly, i rent and buy games but i get them from a website
  • You can buy games, but you need Xbox live points.
You buy a card with a code on it. You can get the card on-line or in your local gaming shops.
Different games require different points totals.

just a note but not all games cost, the full arcade games cost and so do add ons for some games

From what I remember, once you download a movie you have 1 week to watch it. Once you start watching it within that week, you have 24 hours to finish watching it.

As DCFC says, I wouldn't bother with movies or music.

I have actually bought Peggle from the Arcade section and I bought the Lost & Damned extra content for Grand Theft Auto IV.

yep, its cheaper to listen to music on youtube, movies are cheaper on the tv or from blockbuster plus its better quality

don't fret about linking it to your PC and windows media center. it will try to this only of your PC is on when you log in into Xbox live in my experiance .

besides which you need one or both hard wired into your router to stream media content to your Xbox and watch it on your TV .

now you just have hope you that you get a good connection when playing . i had to change my Hubs broadcast channel to achieve this .

as for being safe , well personally i would not worry but some the things you hear on your headset playing COD 4 can be nasty . but usually it's just very strong swearing .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

:rotfl: Now that just plain made me laugh. If you had been here last night when I couldn't get it through my thick skull what the kind people on this thread were telling me? My language was CHOICE!!

In the strangest way though, although it was a complete chore (for you lot too I imagine :p) I'm really quite proud that I eventually managed it

fletch re the downloadi of demos, does your son have a 360 with the hard drive or a memory unit, if the memory unit then you dont need to worry about going over your download limit as the demos are much bigger than the size of the memory unit, butif its the hard drive then id watch what he downloads
