Hi again
No, I don't think I'm putting the router password in. It's a number that's on the screen when I log in using the IP address on the underside of the router. What I meant was my password contains WPA and it contains WPA2 also. I don't want to be all silly and give out the entire password but it definitely contains those initials
I wonder if it might indeed be broken though, truly. The light never once went green.
HOWZAT, thanks for your input. It wasn't said it was broken but you must admit, I seem to have exhausted the suggestions. Even the guy in the shop said you just plug it in and off you go. I wish! I shall indeed go and have a look as you suggest.
Nothing has made me feel so inferior since, well since I had to call out an expert from the local paper to instal D-Link:oGrocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0 -
you are typing the whole of the code in?
i only say that as my netgear router only displays 10 or so characters in the box meaning that i have to highlight the code in the box before i can see the whole of the code0 -
fletch, plug the adapter into a front usb slot and go to network settings and enter the network key, make sure on the router login that the security is set to WPA0

OH MY GOD!!!
I got connected! Thank you so much. I am SO stupid though, I was typing all that stuff when I shouldn't have. It was the password the D-Link fitter guy gave me. Gawd!
Now I've failed at PC selected

There's a list of tasks I suppose on the screen. First one was Network Adaptor and the answer was USB wireless. The next bit (that I couldn't get beyond, was the Wireless Network is now saying connected. The third bit is IP address and it says confirmed. The next bit is PC Selected and it says "failed" Something to do with media sharing software on my computer. Oh this is SUCH steep learning curve.Grocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0

oh sorry, no the computer bit is fine for it to fail on as its not needed as gaming guy says, all thats needed isthe other criteria listed above the computer bit, your now connected to xbox live0 -
As gaming guy says, you don't need to worry about media sharing.
If in the future you want to stream music or photos from the PC, you can. Best leave that alone until we get you set up on Live though.
