  • I have to say, gypsies do get a lot of bad press. Even Cher wasn't particularly complementary about them. Associating them with tramps and thieves is kind of shocking.

But it was only the people of the town that called them that!

Perhaps Jemma-T lived in that town?
  • Lol, no one has thought that perhaps your neighbours are not benefit fraudsters and your evidence would prove that it is in fact as you say her son living with her and not her boyfriend. ;)

There is no need to give anyone on your doorstep information. Even the police will happily wait while you close the door and ring the station to check. Unless they want to arrest you of course. ;)

Going OT I have about three fake callers a day at the moment. Be it fake charity collecting, or general enquiries that are just people checking your property over and yes the police are aware of it so it is not just media hype.

Or perhaps her husband is one of those men who comes round and lays his money (and anything else he can) down?

If you haven't signed a witness statement giving your details, name and address you won't & can not be called as a witness if a court case follows.

My response was to use being as good as told we are in danger every time we open our front door and must put on the chain first!

As far as I am aware, the average fake caller is not dangerous and will actually move on swiftly if challenged for ID.

I can understand some people wanting to use the chain as it makes them feel safer but fear does not always match reality, no matter what the papers tell us.

Probably had the same problem I had trying to read and make sense of the original post.

If you think my English is poor, maybe you should look at yourself!!!

I would like to think that I have helped many people on this board (I am sure the regulars would agree), what have you done apart from discriminate against the Gypsies. Why did you have to refer to door step sellers as Gypsies?

    Yes, I agree! :T
