Caribbean/Faraway Holiday - Recommendations please

Having never been to the carribean I can't comment but I cannot reccommend the Far East enough!
Been to Malaysia(Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi) Thailand (Bangkok & Phuket and also Bali in Indonesia. It's cheap, the food is amazing, the culture is so interesting, the weather is fab and the standard of accommodation for what you pay is great. If you want any info then let me know.
It's also cheap to travel around asia with airasia so perhaps a consideration for you would be to fly to somewhere like bangkok, singapore or kuala lumpur, stay a couple of days and then take a budget flight to one of the beach resorts, there's hundreds to choose from! and have a beach break.
Hope this helps.0 -
That does sound nice - would it be more expensive than the EDSS at £1400 for 2 weeks AI? I would imagine so but I might look into it..
Sandals were doing some great offers.

Summer01- not been back on this bit for a while, we booked through 1st choice and had a thompson flight and it was terrible! food awful, seats awful, movies awful. Have you tried going direct to the hotel? They keep emailing me with offers at the moment, so they might have something for you. Not sure who to fly with but I would avoid charter airlines like the plague-when we go again next year we're planning on flying with virgin or BA, or an airline of that calibre. I flew to New York with Virgin and they were fab. Have you decided where to go yet?Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.0

Hi, haven't decided where to go yet. Where considering EDSS in Mexico for next year. Or maybe Jamaica or Cuba - there is so much choice it's hard!
With EDSS only First Choice go there so unable to shop around..
Also with Virgin, for some destinations is it correct that they have stop overs so not always a direct flight? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
No it's not always direct with virgin, but we're thinking of having a bit of a stopover maybe in LA for the night. EDSS is so nice!! Sign up to First Choice website, they email you all sorts of offers which can be quite good.Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.0

princessamy86, how hot was it in Nov? Did you go at start or end of the month? For us ideal heat is about 80's-90's.. Struggle when it's roasting!
Thanks for letting me know about the flights with first choice. They are the only ones who do that hotel from UK. Might try and price it by going direct to hotel and checking flight and transfer prices.. do you have an email address for the hotel please? Not to worry if you don't, I'm sure I'll beable to find it with abit of searching on internet..
I have been reading the reviews on EDSS and sounds fab!!! Was the dress code ok for you? Are you allowed to wear jeans?
I have also heard from two people that I know that Jamaica Sunset Grande is very nice. One of my friends got married there and another one is a chef who went there and both said it was great..This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Both times we were there in June, Cancun we did at the start of June and Puerto Vallarta was at the end of June, taking us into July.Quit Smoking 12 years 2 months.0 -
I'd definatley second EDSS, best holiday ever!
Great cocktails, 24 hour room service included, and all al a carte meals, no buffet lines to wait in. Very friendly staff, Swim up rooms are fab!
If I was heading off to Mex this year, I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.:beer:0 -
EDSS does look great but the only thing that puts me off is the brochure says transfer time appox 1hr 30mins. After traveling 10 to 11 hrs on the plane do not think i can face another long journey on the bus. Stayed at Excellence Riviera Cancun in Puerto Morelos this year and only took 20mins bus journey.0
