Hi Gardenlover,
Sorry for any problems, if you send me a PM I will be happy to look into that for you. With regards to the closing date for the offer please refer to the link provided by utilitybroker as this information is correct.
Cheers
Shane“Official Company Representative
I am the official company representative of BT. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"0 -
Well I rang BT again and spoke to someone different who had no problems with the free connection offer, however this was in the evening so it seems like evening staff are either better trained or aren't under as much pressure to complete sales?? thanks for all your help0

Can someone please help me as I am having trouble with the free BT installation offer. My line was installed fine, but since then I have had nothing but problems.
When I received the letter confirming the order it showed the connection charge and also stated that I had not set up the DD despite giving my details at the time of placing the order among other errors. I called customer services to give my details again and once again confirmed that I had asked for the free installation deal and confirmed that was still the case and was told that it was. I then received my online bill and the charge of £122.50 was showing, I called again to query this and was told that it was for connection, I advised that charge should not have been placed on the bill as I had clearly asked for and confirmed on my 2 previous calls that I wanted the free BT installation offer. I was told it would be removed from my bill, but it is still there (can someone confirm if installation and reconnection are the same thing as on the actual bill the charge of £122.50 is for line installation and the website is showing this as Exchange Line connection).
I would appreciate some advice before I call BT again, as my DD is due to go out of my bank account at the end of the week and there is no way I can afford a bill of £131.50, so unless this is sorted by then I will have little choice but to cancel the DD, which I do not want to do as it has taken 3 phone calls to get this right.

I had been told at the end of September that the free line offer was being extended with no specific date. I called today to take up the offer of a free connection for our new build and had a bit of a battle to get the free offer - I was told the offer had finished, but the operator eventually said they would honour the offer due to the information I had been previously given.
It is all very hit and miss - if the offer really has finished they should say so!
Anybody thinking of trying to take up the offer should do so very soon. People with completely new houses should be warned, though, that BT will not take an order for the line until the address has been registered with the post office and you also have to contact BT Openreach to get the underground cabling sorted, also before placing the order - this is why it has taken me so long to put my order in.0 -
Free BT line installation offer still working as of 1 Nov - so keep ringing & asking for the Customer Options Team.
As ever, mind the small print! £12.50/mo for 18 mo, mandatory 10 calls from it a month.
I seem to be living back to front. Mr.Dig saw, fell for & bought classic bakelite phone. Only after a very quiet weekend did we twig that just maybe it had a higher Ringer Equivalent Number than 1. (One BT landline means 4 Ringer Equivalent Numbers, and while simple phones score 1 REN, fancier phones score higher & the seriously wierd/vintage can mean you get temporarily disconnected.) Given how the household operates currently & forecast to go in the future, we decided to see if the BT offer was open. Hurrah - it is. (Til the end of 09 I now read. And that it is not a guaranteed stroll in the rose garden, but that happily we do have a real live BT bod watching over this board who seems to work like a benevolent genie.)
Money Saving this is not. However, in another 5 years it will probably be a godsend, as the little Digs are not being informed...0 -
I have had a new line installed with no connection fee under this deal.
However, have just checked my first bill and it appears I have been placed on the "Unlimited Evening and Weekend Plan" (which I am being charged for) as opposed to the "Unlimited Weekend Plan" which I believed I was signing up for ( as per MSE's info here ) and I thought was standard for the free connection deal.
Just rang BT to query this and the Indian call centre told me that in order to qualify for FREE Connection I had to be on the "Unlimited Evening and Weekend Plan" - if I did not want this I would have to pay the £122.50 ?
Can anyone comment?0 -

You can either make a formal complaint, take BT to the Small Claims Court or wait here in the hope that BT Company Representative will come along and offer to sort the problem out for you.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

I had a BT landline for many years, probably over 12, but when I went with Sky they disconnected my BT line in error (which they formally admitted) They offered to refund me the cost of getting the line reconnected, but I was so irate at the time I just went with Virgin Media.
Now the background is out of the way, down to my question! If I wanted to return to BT from Virgin, would I likely be charged for this?0
