Pen, thanks for your explanation of codes.
Frankly, even if I feel a careful buyer, I do not think I need to go this deep into code practices from Empire before I purchase something like a camera!
For me -as a new customer- those two numbers (SS6826 and SW6826) are different and should identify different items in a catalog (it does not make sense to have two numbers in the same catalog that identify the same item). This is of course only an ADDITIONAL element in the whole story that makes me believe that Empire Stores changed their mind only in the middle of this sale (i.e. on the 15th march when they realised this was a loss making exercise). With regard to the references I also noticed that since changing the SW6826 code to 2MP (on the 15th) they have also effectively removed the 3040AF model from the site. This makes me think they might have just run out of stock on that (understandable given that also is an old model), but still they lie saying their story of the mistake and should have sent customers who bought the 3040AF an alternative 3.1 MP camera (which is available still now) and not the 2 MP.
In fact besides intentions, what really counts is that customers (at least those who bought before the 15th march) wanted 3.1 MP cameras, saw 3.1 MP cameras on sale and got billed for 3.1 MP camera. Details were confirmed at three stages, from product description to product invoice to payment which spanned for 3-4 days (with multiple controls I guess)!!!
What Empire then sent is instead a very poor (also estetically) 2 MP camera.
That's not what customers had been shown, told and were expecting all the way!0 -
surely if the transaction is complete then they have a legal obligation to supply you with the described product? Or is it diff on the net?0

oh, and
3. Read their T's and C's. I am quite sure there is absolutely nothing you can do about it!0 -
Don't know if anyone else has posted this but.. I just called Empire to cancel my order, they said that instead of sending me the 2MP camera they had already taken the digital camera off the order completely.
To get the £10 off £20 order discount I had ordered some dip dishes and she said these will be sent to me as a free gift - they were going to cost £9.99
I hate to say it, but I was left feeling rather happy..0 -

Result, well done!
(I'll now just jump out of this thread before the 'I'll never be happy until we bring Empire down' brigade come along!).

silps wrote:No this site did not mislead you, when I ordered they (Empire), advertised a 3MP and confirmed a 3MP in the e-mail confirmation they sent. So get your facts right!
My facts ARE right, in my case anyway. I thought I had ordered a 3MP camera. I had actually according to the email confirmation they sent me ordered a 2MP camera.
SW6826 GREAT PRICE! CONCORD DIGITAL CAMERA IN 2MP 1 GBP 19.99 GBP 11.65
CW3348 PACK OF THREE WOVEN BOXER SHORTS BLUES S 1 GBP 3.99 GBP 2.33
Total : GBP 13.98
Delivery: FREE
Grand Total: GBP 13.98
In my case (and I accept it may be different for others) the only mistake made was my own for not reading the order confirmation screen properly.
I admit it was slightly underhand of empire to make the 2MP link the same as the 3MP link but ultimately I accept that the mistake was mine because I should have checked before I clicked the order button.0 -
Deaf Leopard,
what you report is exactly what some people are complaining about, i.e. Empire Stores sneakily changed the specs (on the 15th march) for the same order code.
So I have an order (done on the 10th march when things were clear on the 3MP side) which is pretty similar to yours, but with the 3.1 MP!!!
SW6826 GREAT PRICE! CONCORD DIGITAL CAMERA IN 3MP 1 GBP 19.99 GBP 11.65
And anyone who ordered before the 15th got that too, as the original offer (up to the 15th) was for a 3.1 MP camera.
So the original thread on this site was fully correct and very helpful! (it was empire who changed things and when they did, let's be fair, Martin put a warning on the first post almost immediately).
Not only Empire changed things, but did not even bother to warn buyers of previous days, took payment as nothing happened and delivered a lower quality camera than advertised and expected!0 -

Seems a reasonable assumption. I ordered at 20:10 on 15th March. If your order confirmation says 3MP and they delivered 2MP then you obviously have every right to send the item back and complain. I was merely pointing out that my order confirmation actually says 2MP, so therefore in my particular case and in a lot of other people's as well I would imagine I can't really do much about it.
Of course, if Empire would like to send me a 3MP camera as a gesture of goodwill then I will be only too happy to accept!0 -

To those of you who want to complain to trading standards and drag this one out for another couple of weeks:-
1. You are embarassing youself!
2. Get another interest in life!
Felicity.
I don't see how me complaining that I saw, ordered, recieved confirmation of and paid for a 3mpx camera and may recieve a 2mpx one without warning is me not having a life. If you went into TopShop and picked up some shoes at £20, and got home and opened your shoe box and they were another pair worth £10, would you not be angry? Why does the fact it's a catalogue excuse their bad service?0
