I would be inclined to kick that router up the garden and buy another one, I simply can't see how it is O2 as a provider at fault (did they supply the router?)

Yes it is a brand new O2 router.

That gives me an idea - if I continued to use the AOL router that may get round it. Reckon O2 would talk me through how to set up the Netgear router for their settings?

Have you disconnected the Bell wire in the master socket?

and then some prat posted incorrect info.

Don't touch the master socket - only BT are allowed to access this and can charge you if you cause a fault.
It is most likely a missing filter.

The redundant bell wire connected to terminal 3 can pick up interference and cause problems, so try disconnecting it at the master socket.

Thanks for this. I'm not sure I would have a clue what to do.

My other concern is why is it only since switching to O2 that there is a problem?

Simply remove the redundant wire connected to terminal 3 at the master socket. This acts like a huge aerial and can cause problems. It is a different router and different technology.

    Thanks again.

I think I am going to have to leave it. It is a rented property and, frankly, don't even know where the master socket is!

Update - I'm now using my old Netgear router and absolutely zero problem!

O2 think it is a router problem. We are going to check over 24 hours and they will send a new one out to replace the good, old faithful, Netgear.

Thanks for all the advice though. Helpful to isolate the problem.

So why not just leave it with the Netgear on now it's OK? It's a better router than the Thomson anyway.

If it's the same Thompson the Be* users get landed with, it's a piece of crap, so the Netgear will be miles ahead, I agree. God, the wireless might even work properly! :D

I'm currently having hissing issues on my O2 BB enabled line. Basically i have master socket, short extension plugged into it, microfilter into the end of the extension lead, O2 modem on one leg and a bog standard wired analogue phone on the other leg. When there is a phone conversation, there is a constant low level hiss and the phone call is choppy, like a simplex line conversation.

    Any clues..??

The hiss is pretty much certain to be caused by a poor quality filter. The O2 router comes with a couple of filters which while not the absolute best work just fine for me. Test this by turning off the router and see if the noise stops (it may take 20secs or so for the exchange ADSL signal to drop after yours does)

Using a plugin extension as you described could be costing you some sync speed - if the extension really is short it won't be a huge amount though.
