Broadband drops when phone is used.

Hi

Recently transferred to O2 for broadband. All fine except every time the home phone is used, the broadband connection drops.

It is an unbundled package that I am on.

O2 don't seem to be able to help very much.

Any ideas? It didn't ever happen when I was with AOL.

Cheers

  • Have you got the correct filters in place?

Each phone, and other device such as fax machine or Sky box should be plugged into a filter, not direct into the phone line

Have you disconnected the Bell wire in the master socket?

Broken or missing filters, for sure. You need them on extensions too.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

Don't touch the master socket - only BT are allowed to access this and can charge you if you cause a fault.
It is most likely a missing filter.

Its surprising that BT were not able to suggest this, what sort of monkeys have they got on the support line?
SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pie man, "What have you got there?" Said the pie man unto Simon, "Pies, you simpleton!"

Strange coincidence, but almost certain that one of your filters has failed. Swap each in turn with a known good one to identify the bad one.
Can't believe that O2 support would not have asked you to check all your filters.

I'd be tempted to unplug everything and just have a phone and bb modem on the master socket with one filter.
If you are confident to undo the master socket you can isolate the house wiring - then use the phone socket you have just revealed inside the master socket to test the phone and bb together.

Thanks all. Just to confirm - filters all checked and all is good. AOL was perfect. Now O2 and a problem.

Oh and should say the only things plugged in are the broadband router and a BT Verve phone (with 2 wireless handsets) - all connected via filters. In fact even extensions with nothing connected still have a filter connected!
