mine was delivered today, roll on the weekend when I will put it into action - what's your most successful pie so far guys???:j

I really like lamb with a little bit of minted gravy pies :) Dont over load them though as it gets messy if you do, i learnt the hard way lol.

Any kind of left over roast meat gets pie-d in my house :)

Have fun and let us know how you get on.

    Hi,

I've just discovered frozen pastry and have made jam tarts, chocolate tarts (yum!), chicken and sweetcorn pie and baked been pasties mmmmmmmm all delicious and so easy to make :)

Anyway, I'm going to make some to freeze and was wondering what tried and tested pie fillings you've done?

I've thought of cheesy mash/onion, brocolli/Cauliflour (?) and cheese sauce but that's about as far as I've got :o

  • Corned Beef and potato.
    Cheese, onion and potato.
    Egg and Bacon.
    Mince and onion.
    steak and kidney.
    Baked bean and sausage
Fruit pies - you can have them as plain fruit or add a layer of custard on top before putting the pastry lid on.

Like the idea of left over roast cookiedough:T

I've only ever made chicken and leek pies (once with bacon) as i'm not keen on 'meaty' pies!

I'd love to make a cherry pie. Or maybe rhubarb (and custard?) Mmm.

Went to a car boot sale yesterday and came home with a Breville Pie Magic (still in box with full instructions and pastry cutters) for £1.50! Absolutely delighted - there's only 2 of us here on a regular basis so will do us fine PLUS I can make some in batches for the freezer :).
  • jsut had to comment but how awful that someone made the comment about using a pie maker not being very os.

the mind boggles because its a kitchen gadget, same as slo cooker, same as bread maker, same as a blender, food processer and so on

away to bang my head off the wall at the insanity of it all.

This is what we do as there are only the 2 of us here too. I also make sure i always have some chilled pastry (not very os but its baby steps for me, ive never made my own pastry) ready for when we have left overs so i can quickly make them into pies, cool and freeze. Its a great money saver for me as prior to us having our pie maker peftovers would just get thrown away :o

    Have fun making pies

  • My DD1 is the fussiest eater in the world but has decided she likes pies. My pie maker is now completely invaluable. She won't eat rice/pasta/potato or cous cous so basically I just put whatever meat/veg thing we are having in a pie. Recently she has had

    Bolognaise sauce
    Chicken curry
    Sweet & Sour veg
    meatballs
    sausage casserole
    taco spicy mince
    roast beef and stuffing
    beef casserole
    carbonara sauce

She has the pie served with some veg on the side.

The secret I have found is not to have it too runny or they can burst a bit - also my pie maker seems to work better with frozen pastry so I just roll out the whole sheet and cut out as many pie crusts as I can and stick them all in the freezer. Not much hassle and a lot easier than making her seperate meals all the time.
