They may have changed it recently but I checked Tesco suet yesterday hoping it didn't contain it, but it's the first ingredient same as Atora.
Jordylass,I've just checked the Atora suet in Tesco(they didn't have any own brand) and the beef suet contains only 'beef suet and wheat flour',the flour presumably stops it sticking together. The Atora vegetable suet is made out of HVOs though. So unless you are veggie Atora would be OK :) HTH

I went to the supermarket yesterday to buy some onion gravy powder - and found that they all contained hydrogenated vegetable oil and of course I didnt want to buy it We like a bit of gravy on HM burgers and sausages - any ideas anyone?

You could make onion gravy? which of course I don't have a recipe to hand for (but I bet someone else does). think its relatively simple..

I LOVE Hydrogenated vegetable oil - used to have a real addiction to buying biscuits, cakes and all things bad yet yummy - now I just read the label and when I see HVO I find myself visualising a large slab of lard... and suddenly I'm not interested!!

You can get HVO-free gravy granules from ASDA:
OXO Gravy granules for roast beef
Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!

    Sunday 9th April:
This week the Food programme is chewing the fat. How much fat should we be eating? Should trans-fats be banned here as they are in Denmark? How is Marks and Spencer managing to remove trans-fats from all their food products? Has saturated fat been wrongly maligned in the past? Sheila Dillon makes butter in the studio for her guests and enjoys some good old-fashioned bread and dripping.

I've just listened to this programme. It was very interesting. However, although I'm sure that transfats are definitely BAD,I'm still not sure how bad saturated fats are.

It was interesting to hear that poultry fat, because it is soft,is not saturated but polyunsaturated as long as the birds have been reared properly.I'm off to get some goose fat from the butcher next week ;)

    Coffee whitener

I went to buy one in tesco and read the ingredients. Hydrogenated fat is second on the list

Ahhh I have just finished a large jar. My coffee today is whitened with OS dried milk and it tasted good. Have we been brainwashed into sweet and unhealthy products like whitener?

Never again will I use whitener but why on earth do we have to read all the ingredients on everything!!!

Well,in my case my daughter might die if she eats nuts.I'm amazed people don't read ingredients labels, don't people want to know what they're eating?
