I found that virtually all cakes and biscuits at the supermarket contain HVOs. After lots of searching I found about 3 products in the whole aisle that were free of them. Unbelievable.
Cadbury chocolate fingers & Cadbury chocolate marshmallows were free of them.Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!0 -
Almost all cakes, biscuits, pastries bought in shops will have HVO's as margarine is the biggest use of HVO, the reason it is used is because it gives a disgustingly long shelf life.
The things with suet really pee's me off, as I have found it impossible to get natural suet, it is thrown out of the slaughter houses as a waste product now and is manufactured instead. There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.0 -
There was a thread recently about Monosodium glucamate(MSG) in stock cubes.
Kallo are the best with no additives.
In today's Mail there's an article saying to give a child a bag of crisps and a fizzy drink is worst thing due to the additives.0 -
I shall be checking my cupboard tonight. I'm almost scared to look!!0

Trans fats, Alzheimer Disease and other age-related cognitive decline. - eating a lot of trans fat and saturated fat multiplies your chances of getting Alzheimer disease and other forms of dementia, while unsaturated unhydrogenated vegetable fats are strongly protective. Jordylass, some butchers sell real suet.My Q Guild butcher sells big bags of it around Christmas time.Keep looking.Last time I bought suet from Tesco I bought their own brand,I always check labels for HVOs so I'd be surprised if I missed it on the packet, but I might be wrong.0 -
I havent bought margarine for a long time. On bread we have butter thinly spread. For baking I use Pure organic dairy free spread as my son is milk intolerant.
I also agree that supermarkets should be pressurised to eliminate trans fats.MFW 1/5/08 £45,789 Cleared mortgage 1/02/13

I think the only way supermarkets will stop selling them is for all consumers to keep pressurising them. In addition to boycotting goods with HVOs, we could email them to complain, and send letters to the press.Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!0
