    LINK TO A SINGLE POST

If you right click on a post number (eg. the #78 in the post prior to this one) and "copy link address" you get this link:
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=56239605&postcount=78 ends with ?p=56239605&postcount=78
Clicking on this link only ever shows a single post.

I find the following link much more useful, as it allows you to scroll up or down the whole thread from the individual post you have selected:
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/56239605#Comment_56239605 ends with ?p=56239605#post56239605

Is it possible to make the second link the default when you right click and "copy link address", and if so would you consider implementing it?
I prefer the second link and have often wished it actually lets us scroll to see the context of the post, or respond if need be. I agree with that recommendation that a link to scroll should perhaps be the default. However, the second link might be a turn off to be overwhelmed by a long thread, for instance one of those 10001 page long chattering threads on old style board.

That said, your post is slightly confusing to me, I've to hastily add it isn't your fault and that it could be my browser, because I cannot see any question marks on both your links. Also when I right click, the page opens with the same link that I get when I click on the post number.

Is there a possibility of having the 'House buying and Selling' and 'Renting' put into separate threads?
It would be easier reading for both concerned I think. It would save having to bypass loads of posts, to find ones of interest for people in either situation.

The "END DATE" system introduced on the competitions forum on 08/11/12 does absolutely nothing in its current format except slow down posting. It has several faults - the most important of which is that it can not be edited (surely an obvious and basic requirement).

Other faults and opinions can be seen in a thread dedicated to the subject HERE

Seeing as it does nothing at all, several prolific posters are already ignoring it totally.

If the faults were corrected and it was made Sortable and Searchable then it would be useful, but if this is not going to happen shortly then please remove it.
  • Re the new date function in Competition Time -

My main gripe is that new or infrequent users are ignoring the old style of typing the date into the title and are just using the new area to input the date.

This means the comps are moving to Game Over well before the expiry date.

I have given up asking people to amend their titles as it's happening more and more and I feel like I'm nagging. It also seems nonsensical that this function does not do anything to help users.

My opinion would be to take it off now as it serves no purpose and bring it back when it can be used as a working replacement for the current E: ??/?? system.

Ref "The End Date" facility being used in the Competitions forum.

Sorry in my opinion its a total waste of time, it slows posting & cant be edited to name a few. I've never had a problem searching before by end date. We have had a good system in place for a few years now with very little problem. Lets remove the new facility and go back to how we were. And it needs to be sooner rather than later as so many comps are being posted with incorect format titles.

    Thanks

  • ... posters sometimes ask questions on threads such as "where do I enter?". When anyone answers the whole thread is bumped, somewhat needlessly. Is it possible to include a tick box on Competition Time which can be pressed to stop a thread from being bumped?
Something like: Do not bump would be useful so people can answer the question but the thread stays put.

The end dates feature adds nothing in its present form.

However, a small change to the resulting date format would make all new threads searchable by end date- something that is a 'long felt want'. :j

To do: change date format you insert from the calendar to 31DEC12 (ddmmmyy)

Reason - The only thing preventing a search by end date is that vbulletin software allows only alphanumeric characters in the search string. The current date format 31/12/12 includes the non-alphanumeric character /
Hyphens - would be just as bad.

Happy to knock out the code for this if required.

    Hi,

I note you have a few stickies in the Insurance section, and I'm aware you shouldn't have too many stickies for obvious reasons, but there seems to be quite a few duplicate topics.

I am a Chat and Forum Moderator for something entirely different however au fait with vBulletin. In the insurance section specifically I would suggest having sub pages for Motor Insurance, Home Insurance, Commercial etc. and so on. Under the Motor Insurance bit please provide a sticky for discussion on "Motor Legal Expenses" - there is a plethora of duplicates on this and in the end those that contribute regularly will just not bother or just link to one of the other's. What I usually do on the site I Moderate for is quickly identify the new patterns, politely point to the official sticky and close the threads re-starting.
    Kind regards,
    RGB

    Would seem a good idea

They split the Public Transport & Cycling away from the Motoring board (and the new Public Transport & Cycling board rarely gets into double figure viewers) so I think it would be fully justified to split the Renting issues from the House Buying/Selling issues :)
