I've concluded this is the IE update to 11 that is causing me problems...0 -
Causing a lot of people problems. The version of the forum software running here is now known to not work well with IE11, and it reportedly would be a BIG job to back engineer fixes or upgrade to a version that works better.
MSE team are aware of the problems, so I can only assume they are looking at options.
In short term you could roll back to IE10 if you can, or use a different browser such as Firefox or Chrome.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Whenever I make a search for a thread I get pages of suggestions but most often none have any relationship to the key words I put in
Because of this I have started new threads only to get told off that the same discussion already exists
I have just done a search for mobile phone recycling and this is what I got:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/search.php?searchid=152507004
Either I'm doing something wrong that I'm unaware of or the site is badly in need of improvementIWasLookingBackToSeeIfSheWasLookinBackToSeeIfIWasLookinBackAtHer.....0 -

Though it does remind me of one search issue that DOES need to be fixed. Generally on any site's search function, putting the search query in quotation marks searches for the exact phrase entered. This forum does not obey that and just gives results for any post with those words anywhere in it, NOT the exact phrase.0 -
I get 12 pages of results doing the same search. Perhaps explain the steps you went through to get zero results then we could see what you are doing wrong, or discover a forum bug.

Posting a link to the searchid from a search will show zero results for anyone apart from the user who did the search. Even for them they expire, so won't work for very long.
Instead you need to post it like this.

Hi,
Can I repeat a suggestion I made a while ago, as I've just come across the problem again?
I've just been reading a thread, where yet again, was replied to months after the thread had died out and someone had to come along and remind them. I know that being on a mobile I have to keep swinging to the left to check dates. But, it would help posters if the date was put under the thread title, so everyone can see if it's old or up to date, then they won't make the mistake of joining in to an old thread.
This is done on other sites, and it tells you immediately when the first post was made, where as on here, you don't know, it could have been made at any time.
Thanks,

On the above, some forums I use display a warning screen if you attempt to post a reply to a thread that has been dormant for more than, say, six months, and suggest it might be more appropriate to respond to a newer thread, or start a new one. They do allow the post, though. And of course, as this post is three months after yours, there's an argument I should see such a warning now.
I have two thoughts, one based on how another forum works, another based entirely on my own frustration with many, many forum sites.
1. Identify the Original Poster (OP) of a thread. In the summary box where you put "Join Date", "Posts" and so on, write "Original Poster" or "Thread Starter" to show this is a comment from the OP. Or some other way to show easily who started the thread.
2. On the 'breadcrumb' trail across the top, have the board link go back to the page I opened the thread from. For example, I check here daily, so in many boards there is at least two pages of unread threads to check. If I get to page two in, say, "Savings and Investments", open a thread, post to it (or not), then want to go back to the board, if I click the link at the top of the page in the trail list, it always takes me to the first page of the board, not the page I opened this thread from. If I've come in from the second, fifth or whatever page, it's frustrating - I want to go back to the page I came from, not start browsing again. I don't trust the browser 'back' button, especially if I've posted a reply.
On that last one, I haven't seen another forum that works this way, but it would still be a good feature IMO. Perhaps a control panel option.0
