And one Snowy has a gap before her owl and one doesn't....now if I can only remember which is my fellow countrywoman I'll be grand!

I watched it last night too - couldn't help myself, mixture of envy/nosiness/thinking 'I could easily do that if only I had the time and money'. It's definitely house eye-candy, but I'm now getting really annoyed with Kirsty announcing at frequent intervals that she's on a budget and then in the next breath airily waving her hand over something that she 'picked up at auction for £200'. Grrrrr.0

Yep, I agree, I think Kirsty has lost her grip on what a budget actually means to the ordinary person on the street (or on the sofa as the case may be). I quite liked the program, and just rolled my eyes when she paid a fortune for things which quite simply are out of the question for me. She did present some ideas which could be used, but probably some of us have thought of them before. Eg her using an old frame and a bit of mirror glass to make a "new" mirror - we could do that I'm sure if we needed a mirror. Also while her toilet wallpaper was far too busy and far far FAR too expensive the idea could be adapted to make "home made" wallpaper. On Come Dine With Me some bloke had pasted the walls of his downstairs loo with pages from newspapers from the year the house was built then varnished over them - that seemed like quite a good idea to me. I must admit I have tried and tried to pull my home decor together with stuff from shops, but while starting with a particular colour theme in mind get fed up of shopping and finding next to nothing in my price range nor to my taste and so it goes to pot.
Kirsty must be loaded if she can afford to buy a cottage in that part of world, even if it was a wreck. Did anybody see her parents' house last week? That was some big country pile that would pass as the queen's country residence to any passing tourist. I would hazard a guess that she has never had to decide between paying a bill or eating.
I agree with the comment about the lack of safety goggles when she was glass cutting - that was IMO a v.bad example.
Snowy Owl - I don't know of a way of amending your user name, perhaps some begging and bribing of MSE officials may be in order. I've never made a brownie in my life....but I do scoff them when they are offered:o. When are you getting married Snowy? That's a bit of a surreal question, I've more chance of going to the moon than getting married:rotfl:
Bye all

Thanks for that Snowy Owl (goggles) - I did think I was being a bit 'prissy' and 'holier than thou' pointing that out BUT glass and eyes are SO not a good combination - and eyes way too precious to risk unnecessarily.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned it but she's the daughter of a Baron - so her idea of thrift is probably to let the servants go!!!
I thought the wallpaper in the loo and the luxury bathroom were hideous - and did you see the sink in the shape of a shell? - awful!Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -
I did love the art deco bath...it was a lovely creamy yellow and was simply gorgeous! However you'd need a second mortgage to heat enough water to fill the damn thing - that's if you could afford the £1,000 they were asking for it in the first place, plus paying the four men required to lift it as it was so heavy, not to mention the plumbing in of it. Budget??? MY BUM!!0

I really didn't like the colour of the bath. I think yellow is so hard to get right when decorating with it . Now, my idea of a heavenly bath would by a classic rolltop bath and that I wouldn't mind paying for. I do love a relaxing bath.
Snowy and Meanmarie - I can't change my username but I've added my location and got a signature now, I just love cats too!!!!:rotfl:

I just had to watch the programme after the thread here ( missed the first episode) and laughed all the way through. A yellow bathroom suite and she paid how much! £50 for a second hand doorknob ouch.
Is she supposed to be teaching us how to decorate on the cheap. hehe I kept watching to see what colour coat and boots she was wearing next she must have about a dozen different ones. I liked the idea of the homemade candles in cups might have a go myself at that and the bathroom blind was a great idea to use a tablecloth. I have had a handmade lace tablecloth of my granma's in a box at the back of the wardrobe for about 35 years maybe it is time it was turned into a bathroom blind. I also have loads of old chemist bottles in a cupboard in the garage so will wash them out and add coloured water to them and put them on the windowsill. But as for her shelf unit - hope she has a cleaner as they will be a nightmare to dust all that glass. Will tune in next week to see how much she spends pity I missed the kitchen programme as it looked very like my kitchen and I didn't spend very much on accessories.
ps To someone on here who mentioned The Tightwad Gazette. It is thee best book for moneysaving ideas and decorating and will save you the money spent on it the first time you go shopping0 -
Bluegh! What was that obsession with encouraging reading in the toilet all about?? _pale_
It's not something that should be encouraged (or even thought about.... grooooo) - any proctologist will tell you it's a bad idea:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A21388458
and this from a medical website:
'Hemorrhoids result from activities that increase intravenous pressure, resulting in distention and engorgement. Predisposing factors include prolonged sitting,'
I can't remember which poster said she'd now been persuaded to do this following the programme, but my advice to her is - Don't! Stick with your original instincts!Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -

It cost £300k to buy and her refurb budget was £23K:eek:
