You're struggling a bit with this aren't you? The above is a bit like saying "There is a God!" and providing a link to the Vatican's website as proof. Your stalking-like behaviour is going off topic but nevertheless: http://www.bbctvlicence.com/Detector%20vans.htm

Sigh.....you've taken the section that relates specifically to ONLY those businesses to which the Money Laundering Regulations 2007 relate to, and somehow decided that they apply to ALL businesses. You probably tripped over the relevant page during your travels: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/MLR/bus-areas.htm

dacouch: It would be nice to see your proof for this.

So you slate me for giving my thoughts and as you pointed out i did say this "May be" why not "This is Why" It was meant as an idea and i wasn't defending the garage for doing so just putting up a point which I thought may have been justifiable.

    re: Tv detector vans

So instead of you having a guess for no relevant reason you used someone elses all be it "Educated" guess to base your statement... So if you can make a statement based on someone elses guess then why can I not make a suggestion??

Finally from your link a Car dealer could be classed as "High Value Dealer" and clicking on High Value Dealer link at the top will lead you to another page containging the following link: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/mlr/mlr8.pdf and section 2.2.3 may be of some interest to you particularly bullet point 3 because....."Internal reports" wouldn't really work if you just took the money and gave the customer the product.

My stalking-like behaviour seems to have been triggered by your first irrelevant post attacking me for putting forward a suggestion to another posters question. if you attack people is such a manner then they will defend themselves/attack back.

No not really, except that I used to teach the guy so now he knows my income, but hey, he knows my role so can look that up on the net if he is that interested anyway.

This is the sort of attitude I have, does it really matter if you answer the questions? It's really not that much of a big deal.

From Willow65's link, High Value Dealers are those dealing in amounts over £10,000.

You're quite correct, thanks for the link.

I applied online for all 3 of my savings accounts

Because I did not want to subject myself to a sales pitch scenario for other products or accounts

Then you only have to provide proof of ID in branch
    It get's round the problem

Ok, it wan't mentioned that the poster had bought from a secondhand dealer. A lot of car dealers will have cars over £10k

Ok, I apologise for missing the bit about "Lifestyle" but everything else sounds similar to looby loos experience at Natwest and the bit about being "In addition" is irrelevant because different banks have different methods. For example when looby loo went into Natwest all q's will have been part of application process including relationship status and income etc etc. So if you had went into Natwest you wouldn't have had a problem? As the questions all reasonable. Once again i apologise for skimming your oriinal post.

I wrote a long response to this before I realised it was a waste of energy. Please, please just put me on ignore.

The car in question was a secondhand one for my son, and cost £3,500.
In spite of wanting to pay upfront with a debit card, and showing a driving licence for identity, I still had to be subjected to intrusive questions by their financial advisor.

Having given this whole question some thought, I have decided to make a stand against this nonsense.

In future if I have to answer questions that I consider are not relevant, or not required by law to complete the transaction, I will give made up answers that are as far removed from my true circumstances as possible, at the same time being plausible.

Oldone, I think the persons title Financial Adviser gives it away there, they want to try and sell you financial products such as a loan rather than cash payment etc etc.

The car supermarkets tend to have "Financial Advisers" that they insist you sit in front of as they want to get as much money in additional services on top of the car sale as possible.
