Ah yes, here comes one of thos people now. you know, the ones I mentioned that feel they are far more important than everyone else.
GET OVER YOUR SELF
Working in a bank I have an idea about money laundering laws that apply in banking and that was my suggestion as to why the garage may have asked these questions. If you paid £120k cash into a bank then there will be a few raised eyebrows and you would be investigated, so why should this be any different to buying a car??
If you work in a bank then you will know that the money laundering laws require you to just report suspicious activities for the person once to the correct authority. You only have to report the person once, you do not have to report them anymore and it is then left to the correct authorities to investigate it. Whether the bank raise their eyebrows makes no difference all they have to do (As would most other businesses that handle cash over a certain amount eg car dealers, insurance brokers and investment companies etc) is report it.0 -

Whatever your opinion regarding the subject of this thread, that is a direct insult to another member and you are out of order. If you will the end, you must will the means.0 -
Whereas calling me stubborn and petulant wasn't?
I must admit, Fire Fox, I missed that. But calling you that is also out of order imo. However, it might be argued that being stubborn and petulant requires intelligence, so perhaps not an insult to same degree as someone referring to another member as an idiot (which implies no intelligence)If you will the end, you must will the means.0 -

You might also have missed the post where I confessed to being petulant on occasion then ... :rotfl: IMHO the only idiots are the ones who can't muster a reasoned argument! I appear to have started a debate which, now I am not in a minority of one, is quite interesting. Rather surprisingly, I'd normally be batting for the other team - I don't have a problem with CCTV or national identity cards etc.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

I am pretty sure if I went into my local jewllers and bought a £10,000 necklace, the only question I would be asked is would I be paying by credit or debit card - there would be no 1 hour 'interview' about my lifestyle.
Banks, garages and financial institutions are merely using the excuse of preventing money laundering to gather marketing data. Any bank workers who think otherwise are sadly deluded, and are ignorant of the EXACT legislation regarding money laundering, which makes no mention of asking a couple the age of their baby.0 -

So you've confirmed my first post that you don't know what you're talking about and you're just guessing. At what point did you think this would help this thread?0 -

I will just clarify my position on this matter. All my posts are regarding op which is standard questions like Income, Marital status etc etc. Later when op mentioned that other question were asked on seperate paper form I haven't mentioned but i would probably agree that not all q's are relevant. Also questions about your baby are totally irrelevant. Natwest ask the questions on the screen which are Nationality, Marital status, I don't think income for just savings account but not 100% sure. number of dependants and i think thats about it apart from address etc etc.
hope that clears things up. i also agree you probably wouldn't get these questions but if you also acted suspicous or maybe didn't look like the sort of person who had £10k lying around they may do something. I don't actually know as never worked for a jewellers or a Garage. I did mention that what I said about the garage was a suggestion not a fact.0 -
It never ceases to amaze me that there are people around who, when they clearly have no idea of the answer, just randomly guess for no apparent reason.
Good grief! If we just knew our place like you eh? (tugs furiously at forelock....!)
Yes because this post was so helpful to the thread??0
