To the people who have been 'ringfenced' - this happened to me recently - similar huge amount of money, but it is refunded in the said 5 days.

However, despite spending some time on their CS line (0870, no alternative) we didn't get the room we were after!

TL is great when it works - horrific when it goes wrong as there is no effective helpline.

seems we were lucky getting the money paid back in a reasonable time!

All £9 rooms sold out now.

We had this problem where they took the money twice as there servers timed out. We managed to cancel the rooms with out charge but then we had to wait while they issued a cheque and it took weeks

I am so annoyed about the way Travelodge have 'ring fenced' our money down to failures on their server capacity when trying to make bookings.

I will NEVER NEVER NEVER use them again. £9 is too much to pay for a room companred to the hassle and worry I now have about the level of available funds in my account.

TRAVELODGE should be exposed for this for their incompetance. I would rather pay £50 for a Premier Inn room or a HI Express room and know they only ring fence the money for the booking.

We had a similar problem, but not lost as much as you have! We have lost £360 through 9 attempted bookings all came up 'your transaction has not completed' after taking my debit card details. It was'nt until I tried to book again last night that when it came up as card declined, I panicked and found out what had happened. I've been onto my bank and Travelodge, travelodge say 5 days to getting money back, bank say 10 days!! My bank said if Travelodge faxed a letter to say they had no intention of claiming my money from their holding a/c that my bank would put the money back into my a/c asap. Travelodge werent keen on this when I suggested it, but they have emailed customer services again (on top of the 3 emails I have sent, 2 of which Ive had replies for) and Im hoping for a quick response on monday. I have also contacted Citizens advice bureau, as both bank and travelodge say they arent responsible for refunding whatever bank charges we get, a) for making us go over our overdraft limit, and b) for the charges we will get as we have a few direct debits due out in next few days. I sent a letter recorded delivery to travelodge tonight, so Im hoping to have the money credited soon, and to find out about the bank charges. Never booking travelodge online every again, the worry made me sick last night.

I don't seem to have had a problem with Travelodge despite the site stopping several times on the payment page but did have an issue a couple of months back with a late payment going into my bank - had the same problem as you regarding direct debits and to my surprise my bank were fantastic and extended my overdraft until the funds arrived. Might be worth asking if they could temporarily give you an overdraft equivalent to the ringfenced money until it is released.

    Hi
Yes I did that last night, they increased it a little, but can't increase it to the amount we need to cover the mortage payment on monday! Phoned travelodge again last night, they said they arent responsible for repaying any bank charges we get, and my bank say they arent responsible, so will be contacting Citizens Advice again on monday to find out what we will have to do to claim the charges back. I just really hope we dont have to wait longer than the 5 days they say

slinky - I spoke to Consumer Direct about this as it had been taken from DS's account and he runs it to the bare bones!

I was dismayed to learn that in theory, TL could keep ALL of the monies they have ringfenced as we had requested the rooms and they took the money in good faith!! At best, all I could expect was the money to be refunded - must admit I'm a bit at a loss to understand how the innocent consumer is protected from technological failure such as this.

TL are rubbish at communicating, the 0870 line has people on who have no authority and I had to wait for several days for a ring back from the 'other CS' line - the one that you can't ring yourself:confused:.
  • I booked 2 x rooms in 1 transaction. Constantly erroring on both mobile site and normal site, just by chance I checked my email account and had 2 x invoices for £9 per room, with confirmation numbers.

    Just checked my CC account online, I have 2 x transactions 1 @ £18 & 1 @ £19.50.
