OK so I went into my local branch today and saw the girl who opened my account. As always she was very helpful and couldn't understand why it had been disabled. She showed me my information on the screen and it clearly said "In bankruptcy" next to my customer details, and I can still use my account so that's fine. She then scoured the Barclays procedural screens about what happens when a customer is bankrupt.

It basically said bankrupts are entitled to a cash card account, with a link next to it. The link showed what was and what was not available on the account - online banking definitely was available. It also wasn't listed in the things bankrupts are not allowed, so she is going to make a few phone calls and see if she can get it sorted for me.

How far she will get is another matter but she seemed pretty determined to sort it out, as she knows about my whole situation and got me the account in the first place - so hopefully she will be able to convince them that online banking is not something they should be taking away from a bankrupt who is desperately trying to keep a very close eye on their finances!

I will let you know what she says...

    Cheers

Thats the thing as a BR you are normaly short of money and always keep a close eye on your finances so i feel that online banking in todays world is a must.

I have to say having tried to set up an account by post my branch in the nearest big town was great a they could not have been more helpful even after i told them about my BR and at the time it had to go to appeal and like you the personal banker made a few calls and hey presto account set up what i did not know at the time was i had in fact got an ED so was not BR anymore anyway.

    Good luck with it.

:jgood! that was my main reason for going for barclay's,and if they do take my online banking away,I'm not using their phone banking,I aint using my phone to ring them so they can save money on high street banks,I'll be going in.the phone banking should be a free number!

The geographic alternative to the 08457 555555 number is 02476 842099 so if you have free minutes that might be useful. There's also a freephone number of 0800 731 5387 which works too for now - although it says it's going to be closed down soon so they clearly don't want people phoning it :)

Careful if you call from a mobile as 0800 numbers aren't usually included in free minutes (use the 02476 number instead) :)

got free landline mins on mobile so will be using them, just gave phone banking a try and would rather be able to keep the online account as don't like giving my details over the phone and what if they mishear my details-I might have just transfered £200 into some elses account:eek:

When you typed in your debit card number and the two digits from your passcode, did you get an automated system or were you immediately transferred to an advisor?
