BR Barclays Online Banking Cash Card A/C

I suspect the following (but I don't know for certain):
Barclays, like most other banks, go through the London Gazette or Insolvency Register after your name is published, check your name against their records and mark your customer number accordingly with a bankruptcy marker. Normally, this would freeze or close most accounts but probably not the Cash Card (from what we understand). As you opened your account after your bankruptcy but probably before your name was published/picked up by Barclays, I suspect that they have marked you as a bankrupt, which in turn has affected your account facilities (i.e. online banking).
I opened my Barclays account three months after bankruptcy (not by choice but that's another story) and I still have access to online banking. I was given a new customer number as there was no record of me ever being a customer (despite being a customer previously and my details were on the system the day after my bankruptcy when I first applied for an account). Therefore the bankruptcy marker probably only appeared on my old customer number and has probably never appeared against my new customer number.
It could be that they are going to cut off all online access for bankrupts but I suspect it's a case of some people are affected by the way the accounts were opened and when they check bankruptcies against their records. They obviously need to change their policies/computer system as online banking is a cheaper way of allowing customers to service their accounts and doesn't represent a risk.
that sounds like it could be right but the only thing is I think I remember sieve saying he went BR after me,which was only a week or so ago,and like me wouldn't have thought his name was in the paper yet? I know mine isn't not that I'm looking for it but a (put swear word here)at work checks the paper every Thursday and would have said if I was the headlines that week:D0 -

Yeah it's strange as I have spoken to their legal department on two different occasions well before today and told them I was bankrupt - they said no worries at all, carry on using your account as normal etc - just this afternoon I got locked out of online banking.
So I don't know what flags it up - I am half expecting my card to disappear the next time I put it anywhere near a hole in the wall but the phone monkeys assured me it wouldn't happen. Although I believed them the last time they said that and look what happened to that!BR 08/04/09 | ED 02/10/09| BSC 255

You seriously wouldn't have wanted to hear the words that escaped my mouth when I discovered that they'd removed the sole reason I got this account.BR 08/04/09 | ED 02/10/09| BSC 255

My entry appeared in the London Gazette 11 days after my bankruptcy but it appeared on Experian 4 days after my bankruptcy (which surprised me). I guess credit reference agencies and financial companies might have access to a different variant of the insolvency register or court records.0

I wouldn't trust what banks tell you about banking in bankruptcy. Natwest told me on three occasions that I could keep my account, they then froze my account and subsequently closed it. They told me on four occasions that I could have a Step Account (and even told me how to apply without getting caught out by the system). I also got a letter in writing saying that I could have an account and I took this along with me to open an account honestly (declaring my bankruptcy). They had to send my application off and I've not heard a word since (and that was a month ago!)
Finger's crossed it's just a temporary blockage and not them implementing restrictions - otherwise it's an account in the dark ages!0 -
One more thing I just remembered before my weary brain shuts down! The woman in the Legal Dept couldn't explain why I'd been allowed online banking to start with when I'd declared bankruptcy upon opening my account. She did say that they might be considering letting bankrupts have online banking in a couple of months. I asked if they would let me know when this was happening or would I have to keep trying online. Apparently they'll let me know... yeah, right!0

Lloyds only shut my main current account and deleted it from my online banking (along with my loan and my credit card). But I still have another current account and two joint ones with ex that haven't been touched for years... except when I was misinformed by Lloyds that I'd have to pay £10 into each account for SARs concerning bank charges in 2007. They are still showing on my online banking which I can still access and seem to be live. I bet the ex wishes he'd signed the forms to shut the joint accounts... who'd want a financial association with me??:-) Night all and thanks for replies0
