BR Barclays Online Banking Cash Card A/C

I had to ring Telephone banking again this morning for my daily update and complained again. They lodged a third complaint regarding this (although I've heard nothing back on the previous two!) and then told me to call the Complaints Team. The Complaints Team were clueless but they have now escalated the complaint and if no joy then I can go the Financial Ombudsman. Watch this space:-)0

Although I told them I was BR when I opened the account I think it was when the OR finally contacted them about my pre-BR current account (£213od) that triggered the marker. Whatever it was, I don't mind having the BR marker, but I DO mind losing the online banking! I was tackling about 16 banks and credit card companies prior to BR and would have fought them for copies of Agreements etc to the bitter end if an Interim Charging Order hadn't pushed me into BR! Well, good luck to us all... onwards and upwards!:-)0

Brilliant, they've locked me out too:

Phone banking also put me straight through to an advisor when I entered my debit card details.... they are up to something fishy that's for sure....BR 08/04/09 | ED 02/10/09

I suspect the following (but I don't know for certain):
Barclays, like most other banks, go through the London Gazette or Insolvency Register after your name is published, check your name against their records and mark your customer number accordingly with a bankruptcy marker. Normally, this would freeze or close most accounts but probably not the Cash Card (from what we understand). As you opened your account after your bankruptcy but probably before your name was published/picked up by Barclays, I suspect that they have marked you as a bankrupt, which in turn has affected your account facilities (i.e. online banking).
I opened my Barclays account three months after bankruptcy (not by choice but that's another story) and I still have access to online banking. I was given a new customer number as there was no record of me ever being a customer (despite being a customer previously and my details were on the system the day after my bankruptcy when I first applied for an account). Therefore the bankruptcy marker probably only appeared on my old customer number and has probably never appeared against my new customer number.
It could be that they are going to cut off all online access for bankrupts but I suspect it's a case of some people are affected by the way the accounts were opened and when they check bankruptcies against their records. They obviously need to change their policies/computer system as online banking is a cheaper way of allowing customers to service their accounts and doesn't represent a risk.0
