Just had a call from this number
01482221052 who asked me if "so and so" lived at number 24. I then said "who is this" and she was a scottish lady and said "not to worry, I just want to know if this person is still at that address". I was gob smacked at them doing this and told her I had never heard of the person and she said "not to worry" and hung up. I have just done 1471 and I have found them here

and it seems its a debt agency. I am a little worried now as this house belongs (and has as long as I have lived here) to a little VERY old lady who lives alone and even has home help. I cannot believe they are doing this. Do you think I should call trading standards or not? Will they be able to help as I am worried in case anything happens to her now....

Or Social Services Marshallka if you are concerned as she is a vulnerable person and am sure they will have to act. Also does she have family that you know of? Somebody in the local post office etc may know her family.:mad:0

I have just called trading standards who have told me the only thing this debt agency has done wrong maybe is "data protection" being leaked. They have said that I need to make the lady aware of this and to watch out for suspicious people etc and don't make any payments over the phone. I am quite sure that she would not be able to do any of this so will have to ring our docs i think as they will know what to do maybe and who looks after her. I also know one of the home help people that come to her and she is friend of my sisters. I have done all I can but how can they get away with this. :mad:0 -
I know as far as these agencies are concerned they are just a list of telephone numbers or addresses that come out of a computer that they then ring and hassle. Shameful:mad:0

I have now rang our Docs and one of the receptionists lives just further up the road so I have told her what has happened and she told me that the name of her son was not the one given to me (although did not mention his name to me either) and that she would call her son and give him my number to ring me about it. I told the docs I don't want to do as trading standards have told me and go and frighten her but I am concerned as these people are not nice people half the time and this old lady is actually vulnerable. Just have to wait now.0 -
Just found this and its interesting and wondered if this would apply to the sub prime market and also the selling of secured loans and repossession????

Very interesting reading. Do not know if it would apply but it should do.:mad:0

Very interesting reading. Do not know if it would apply but it should do.
A Citizens Advice report entitled Set Up to Fail, on the sub-prime lending market in 2007, found the charity's repossession clients had often found themselves with "inappropriate and unaffordable" mortgages and secured loans, and that people buying council houses received "particularly poor advice".
I know this refers to council houses but would think it would be the same for private houses too.0
