Happy New Year Steve, hope everyone is well. Tommorow is back to normal trading so today is last day for entries in Stockchallenge competition so if anyone wants to enter - http://www.stockchallenge.co.uk/

I did awful this year, placing 203 out of 400 entries.
All but 26 people lost money with their choices, I recommend entering just to learn how easy it is to get it wrong

Quite fancy that looks like I have missed it icon9.gif Anyway hope you all have a happy and prosperous New Year :)

In the case of IMG, 40% growth each year seems pretty unbelievable... didn't they recently report a 25% increase?

Profits up 52% and technology revenues up 40%, with the latter being mostly licencing driven as royalties lag this.

I'd be looking for a dip to buy at a slightly reduced price.

I'm doing the same with the whole market right now!

Ah that's quite a bit better than I had remembered. Puts the 40% annual growth back on the cards.

Indeed. Amongst all the Eurozone drama, there seems to be a lot of good reports coming out, so I'm hoping an imminent pull-back will be shortlived. The 5700 level is approaching...

Shush yourself! I'm hoping for 5000 again soon as I have another tranche of cash to invest.

    :D

I certainly think this is possible. All I'm saying is that I hope that a drop from current levels (maybe right down to 5000) will be followed with a bounce back to 5700+. Would make for great buying opportunity! Might just give incentive for BOE to increase QE (February?) and for the Fed and ECB to follow suit. However, I'm still not convinced things won't go completely in the other direction!
  • IMG sounds alot like ARM which I was asked to put in for someone elses entry.

Fabless processor design, ARM date back to the 1980's ACORN computers if anyone remembers those, they come to light now due to being low power hence mobile

AMD is another fabless company, by that I mean without production just purely design. Couple people might recognise them because they sell consumer products almost direct

I thought about ARM at 200 and they 570 now. went from expensive PE to amazing rating, thats high tech for you. Up another 3% today

This market is a bit floaty in my feeling, see how it handles a knock but the good vibes dont often last that long these days

Sorry I didnt mention it earlier but http://www.stockchallenge.co.uk/ is monthly too, you can enter FEB if you like but then you got to see it perform in just one month

CEY does seem overly cheap barring a total failure in Egypt. Sadly it seems the country stays chaotic for many years to come even at best

Cluff gold would be another one, during a civil war they were twice the price they are. Now that is off
    I must have missed something

Market is doing well despite dollar strength and Euro failing

I sold off most of my KAZ even though its cheap, could double if Copper price were reliable. Forget gold, if copper goes up the miners will do very well.
2012 is more chaos I reckon, no peace for the wicked

Looking to put a bit into FXPO as it was very strong previously, need to read up on it
Gold miner Centamin Egypt (CEY) produced 58,965 ounces from its Sukari project in Egypt during the fourth quarter ended 31st December, up 10.9% on last year’s comparable period. This was achieved through record throughput at the processing plant of 1,066 kilotonnes as the site continues its ramp up following Stage 3 commissioning. This brings total gold production for 2011 to 202,698 ounces, some 35% above 2010 levels. The shares climbed 6.9p to 87.75p.
Cairn Energy (CNE) will return 3.5 billion dollars (2.3 billion pounds) to shareholders following the sale of its remaining 40% holding in Cairn India to Vedanta Resources (VED). The oil and gas explorer’s shareholders will receive 160p per share in the form of a B share scheme, in order to give UK tax residents the option to choose to receive cash in the form of income or capital. The group added that any remaining funds from the disposal will be used to fund growth opportunities. Cairn shares swelled 8.6p to 270.4p.

For those who are unaware, there has already been a bit of discussion of mining stocks which I found very useful...

Not investments for the faint hearted though!

I decided to invest in FXPO, XSPR and CYN as they seemed like good options at the time. They promptly fell quite a bit (of course!); CYN is still red but both FXPO and XSPR are now back in the blue.

Fingers crossed for a commodities-driven rally!

    I know you're a previous/current? holder of EMED.
Election date in Andalucia confirmed for Mar 25th.
    Parliament dissolves Jan 30th.
Will there be progress before then?

Fingers crossed. Exciting times. Possibly. :D

I hold a chunk of BLT directly, which I bought as a long-term dividend play when the yield went over 4% back in August. I also hold some First State Global Resources, which is well under water, and (of course) any investment in UK or Pacific stocks is well exposed to diggers.

    That's enough commodities for me!
