I also hold some First State Global Resources, which is well under water, and (of course) any investment in UK or Pacific stocks is well exposed to diggers.

    That's enough commodities for me!

I luckily cashed out 75% of my First State Global Resources holdings at the beginning of 2011 at around 435p. I'm now waiting to drip feed back in, but looking for a fund level of around 300p to start doing that. Of course every time it looks like it may be getting down to near that level there's a bit of good news and commodities rise again. I still think we will see some lower levels in the next few months though. It's currently 357p.

All the markets are doing that, but on tiny volumes. I'm sitting on a nearly (a few pence off!) six figure sum in cash so would love the FTSE to drop to 5400 and everything to drop with it. Then, and only then, please can we have a recovery? :D

Yea they are subject to overall economy concerns but dont seem to be overvalued at 5 PE

Bought a tiny bit of Beowulf today, not much because its such a weak stock. Looks like it could make 8p at this rate because the share is technically lacking any great support here.
As is often the case, quick up can be quick down also as it lacks the gradual buyers at various prices. Doesnt mean its a bad company or a bad prospect just unpopular and not profitable right now?

I bought Sainsbury instead of Tesco, at 5.5% yield I think they are ok. I will add at 260 if it continues to be weak but there is a reasonable chance it wont be but anyway its cheaper then 2009 without a good reason to be ?
I sold off some EMED I bought at the wrong price, copper done well so far thanks to China I think. Sold Lloyds, RRL, VGM

Also got bit of CAD, its continued to be weak I guess it will drift on

Gulf Keystone very strong performer this week but was it on good reason or pipe dreams

GKP is going to da moon! :D

I keep thinking of selling mine (about 80% gain) but have held off so far! The last hair brained TO price estimate is $61. :rotfl:

Structured funds? The word "structured" is one of my "avoid" words, but maybe these aren't what I think they are.

Hi Sabertooth happy new year too and all the old gang and new forum members to me

let me be totally open i will show you how my year was

i had a mixed bag last year no "actual loses as such but paper loses
are showing on my portfolio now

lets start with the good news

in Jan last year i sold a share with the biggest gain i have had to date and surfed a few others as well in total made 235k

so in Jan last year i was in cloud 9!!!

    now the bad bits

im now showing a paper loss of around 111k

so in away i am still up but in another way i am down

however i am confident in the companys i am in at present
i am only in a few at the moment still have some other funds
to reinvest in due course however i am very "cautious!"

actully my bottle has gone down a bit and been spending most of
my time reading on companys and posting on another forum to keep
me bizzy and happy i also updated to L2 system.
I been watching companys in deepth during the day in real time which i am now confident what i am seeing and doing on that system i had that for nearly a year now, i been testing myself where i am not buying into companys as such at present however i am understanding trigger points on buys and sells on varoius companys.

Give you a brief idea on my dummy portfolio i have called more success then none success to buy and sell on a company
i wont bore you with the companys i been testing them on! i be here for a while because its more of in and out style trading rather then "holding" for a time period of 1 year plus.

Back to the real world and real money this is what i am holding
at present. as usual i am a all or nothing invester.

AMC "i seem to alway follow this 1 this is 1 of my 1st trades looking back when i used to post on here a lot, this is the 1 which is showing
a big paper lost at the moment but i am happy to hold its either going to gets its Mining licence or not "so all or nothing" NAV is around £1 if they get the licence b4 dilution
now currently trading at 9p so you can see the markets have priced it all or nothing as well at the moment due to its in Russia and of course of its success on the mining licence, if YES then we all know that will have a major re rating but its not for every invester due to its risk factor but i like them sort of companys, 3 Russian agencys out of 4
have given a yes its the last agency now the company is waiting for its
decsion "in my lingo 3 hurdles have been done now waiting for the last
as we speak im in at 16p

STEL showing a lost but its not as bad as AMC
this is a diamond company in Africa due to what we all know what happend in 2011 in Europe and most parts of the world, this has lost ground on its SP however its bouncing back now which i am sure has a lot more legs in due course so hopefully i be in a gain soonish trading around 5p now, my reasoning on this company is China and India are still buying diamonds more then us in the UK and USA so i am thinking this will do allright while Europe is trying to sort its self out, time well tell i am sure?!!!?! im in at 6p

SOU this is a total punt from myself cut a long story short it has varoius drill results coming up in 2012 its an OIL company which is drilling in Italy and Indonisia, i am in not far from todays SP of 1.7p
and i am doing this on the bases of me playing with my L2

it be murphys law now my real trade will go wrong he!he!
    im in at 1.9p

so thats me in a nutshell at the moment im still my happy self
learning on my journey on Share Trading

    All the best from Steve

ps as usual forgive me about my grammer ;)

Happy New Year Steve, hope everyone is well. Tommorow is back to normal trading so today is last day for entries in Stockchallenge competition so if anyone wants to enter - http://www.stockchallenge.co.uk/

I did awful this year, placing 203 out of 400 entries.
All but 26 people lost money with their choices, I recommend entering just to learn how easy it is to get it wrong
