UK Stockmarket 2009 and beyond

5052 marks the trend lows to match 22nd 28th 29th. Just trend line resistance but could be bottom for now to some extent *disclaimer*

Do any of you guys know of a UK listed equivalent of this stock RGLD? I like the fact that it is not actually caught up in the physical act of mining the stuff.

Is this a similar model to Silver Wheaton in the Ag area? Not heard of them or similar offerings, over here and Europe we are often limited in our investment options compared to the States.

Yes Silver Wheatons model afaik is the same, they make a payment up front, (purchase the royalty) which gives them a percentage of the metal, they don't get involved in the day to day mining operations.

Regarding Santander and Spanish Banks I am wary of the Spanish economy and what may happen in the future.

I read an article a few months ago (unfortunately cannot find it now) which was basically saying that under Spanish financial reg's Spanishs banks do not have to re-value their loans (property construction machinery etc) and therefore they are able to leave the original valuation on their books which means they are not in the situation that UK banks have been through where they have had to re-capaitalise in order maintain operating limits.

If memory serves correct the author was basically saying Spain's financial system was a house of cards waiting the for the bottom card to topple. Now, whether the nature of the credit crunch and where we are in the economic cycle has allowed the Spanish banks / government sufficient time to resolve the issues (re-capitalise) without major defaults only time will tell.

LOL, yes we have to revalue our loans like the US, So what we like the US do, is create "Off Balance Sheet Entities" to house what we think are the dodgiest of our loans. But yes, that certainly would give you pause over Santander, given the state of the Spanish property market, and the fact that unemployment I believe is in the realms of 20% over there.

Just a word of caution for buyers of miners, prices have only retraced to December(pre Xmas rally)levels.I would like to see JULY levels.If you ARE buying then you must be assuming a return to FTSE 5500?Cant see this happening with the withdrawal of QE + Debts and Unemployment etc

At 238p HOC is at its July low. As I said I've dipped a toe and we'll see how it goes.
