I was out last night (naughty me) so missed your posts, Welcome to the forum money penny, everyone here is very supportive and you will find it a great help.
My OH kept things away from me too, he thought he had let me down, our marriage was nearly ruined because of debt dont let that happen to you. Try not to be so mad with him...
It was christmas when my OH told me we had to go BR, not that long ago, I could not have got through alot of it without the lovely folks on here, now I try to give things back.. help people when I can.
From the amount of debt you have I dont think you are suitable for a Debt relief order (DRO) your OH might be,
If you can't afford the repayments on your debts BR may be the best way to go.
You both need to talk to CAB, you need to get a better understanding of what happens.
You have no house to loose, no expensive car. You wont get anyone coming to your house to take your goods. It will be a fresh start for you both.

  • hi phil thanks for that...its more i cant get my head round how the debt accumalated so speedily.really out of my depth for a good year now,but still tried to keep servicing loan an credit with credit if you see what i mean.i know penny cant get her head round the fact that now she knows the overall amount. roughly 31000 she cant see anything for it..new car caravan, she thinks i have spent it on an item.thats what i am upset about ,she has no idea how you can get into the vicious spiral.of credit feeding.she has never had to handle money an i know she wont mind me saying a little naive in this department.your stories of how debt spiralled for yourselves may help her to understand this.we had a hol in florida 2 weeks last sept, she worried about this looking bad, guilt of having a good hol i think.cource i should not have booked it on credit, but at time handling quite well.never missed a payment, but then you sit down an realise why..cos servicing from one to another.i will stop going on now feel a bit better now pen knows.however watching her go through this not going to be easy

we've all been where you are col to be honest.....I doubt many here would be able to show where cash went (I know I couldnt!) the main thing is IT HAPPENS (or should that be S*** happens?)

You WILL get through this together it's a hard difficult path to take but there will be a solution to it all
Bankruptcy was the single best thing I EVER did (after a serious car accident left me with various disabilities I lost my job unable to work & a large ammount of debt)

Welcome Col, we're all glad you've come on board the forum - I don't think it's a problem to share your missus's username;). Now that the pleasantaries are over I'd like to offer my 2p worth of advice - DO NOT PAY FOR DEBT ADVICE OR TO HAVE YOUR PAPERWORK FILLED OUT. The people who charge for the service are preying on vulnerable and often frightened people:mad::mad::mad::mad:. Members on this forum have helped hundreds fill out their BR forms and those people have gone on to successfully file for their own bankruptcy. Don't part with a penny, you'll need it for the court fees which are now £510 per person, with exemptions for those on low income (you may qualify).

    Col

so very very glad you have been able to join us. This place is a sanctuary:o.

Don't worry about that holiday...i had one on my cc from 5 mths before i went bc,not proud of it but at that point i was still managing or so i thought.

As others have said do not pay anybody:eek:lordy thats the last thing you wanna do.

I would suggest you both have a good long chat and ask us lots and lots of questions ,anything that pops into your heads fire away. When you have more understanding of the way things are we can point you in the right direction for the forms, court procedures ect.

You first and most important job though is to ring one of the numbers that are in either mine or phils sig, like phil suggested. May take a while to get through as they are busy. You could always do the debt remedy on the www.cccs.co.uk they give you a personal client number so when you ring they can recall all your data up on their screens.

Nice to see you here, you have made the biggest step in telling penny and admitting you have a problem.Dx

    Oh and comming here:D

hi iquit so you can do this on your own.go to court.
Yes you can go to court yourself to file your bankruptcy. You usually need to book a date with the local county court. Please be aware that not all county courts deal with bankruptcy and you may need to attend out of your town. Some areas have a first come first served policy so make sure you find out. The court can send you the paperwork you need to fill out or you can download it frrom the insolvency website. It needs to be done before you go to court.
