Problems with new graphics card

Just got a second hand graphics card from eBay. Gigabyte Nvidia 6600GT

I loaded 3DMark and played the demo and tests. The demo started playing and then all the graphics started breaking up.

Could this be the card?

I uninstalled old drivers and reinstalled and still have this problem.

On the Sims 2 it was worse than with my old card. It goes into a neighbourhood and then locks up or kind of loops.

I never had this with my old card, I upgraded for faster gaming.

I would love to know if I should put these problems down to the card or not.

    oh dear.

Do you still have your old graphics card you could try again? When the graphics lockup do you get a sound-loop? Meaning the sound that is playing at that time gets stuck in a never ending loop until you turn off.

Does the graphics card have a fan on it? Is it working?

Do you know the wattage rating of your PSU inside your machine?

    Rich people save then spend.
Poor people spend then save what's left.

It is passivley cooled so no fan.

I can't use the same cdmark software to test it as it doesn't support my old card.

    I have a shuttle SN41G2 with silent X 250w power supply.

The demo that plays plays all the way through but everything breaks up now and again. With the Sims 2, it loads the neighbourhood and goes really slow or just flashes the screen. I altered all settings to low in the game and still too slow.

But that is all I can have for this shuttle? I don't want to alter that.

Saying that, other people with 250w shuttle PSU's are saying they run 6800GT's and above....

That's what I thought. The max psu I could possibly get would be a 300w anyway.

I just don't know why it all breaks up and the Sims 2 is super slow.
