Gammon & Coke

Hi sazziecee,
It does sound as though you have used quite a lot of coke, but the good news is that the gammon should be cooked through and won't be raw this evening.
The timing will depend on your machine (in my old [STRIKE]decrepit[/STRIKE] slow cooker a 2lb gammon would take about five hours. In my new morphy richards one, four hours is enough. If you want to be able to slice the gammon it's important not to overcook it.

Hi, thanks, its a pork joint though not a gammon, as it was loads cheaper.
Gammon is just cured pork right?
So does one cook quicker than the other?0 -
Hi,
Sorry I thought when you called it ham in the title you meant a ham joint. Gammon is the name for ham that's been cooked. If it's pork it's a whole different ball game and I'm afraid I've never heard of cooking a pork joint in coke.
Please disregard my previous post.

I read it the same as pink-winged did and assumed you meant a ham (gammon)
I do this quite a lot with gammon but not sure it will work with pork, the flavours sound wrong together0 -
lol oops, guess my tea isn't going to be very nice tonight then, if it ever cooks that is0

Dont be daft I bet it'll be lovely. Do flavoured rice or maybe a nice salad with it. I just wouldnt do it as a roast with gravy.
I tell you what I do when i've done a gammon in coke, I simmer down the juices until its thick and black and use it as a side dip. Gorgeous with homemade wedges.... it may work?
Enjoy yourself whatever you do with it..... good on you for giving it a go and not buying ready meals! :T0 -
was actually really nice. Put it in the oven for last 30 mins though with the bbq marinade.
Was like bbq spare ribs, but without the bones obviously
We had it with oven chips, broccoli and cauli and red cabbage that I cooked in the leftover coke mixture.
Made a nice change and my 4 year old even ate the leftovers for supper
Still gonna try it with a gammon sometime though, if I find a decent sized cheap joint

Hi,
I have some ham to cook and I have vague memory of a recipe from Nigella about cooking it in cola.
I really want to try this and also want to know if I should adapt it for use in my slow cooker.
Would appreciate some help or to be pointed towards a previous thread.
Thanks!

I often cook ham this way now. She uses the cooking liquid to make a black bean soup which is really scrummy too!Getting there...slowly!
GC : must do better
NSD: very rare
No matter how slow I go I am lapping everyone on the couch.0
