  • Hello!! Well got my Siennasol but have had a grumpy, clingy little baby all weekend so v late on Sunday night I put some Siennasol on my legs. I didn't worry too much about my knees and feet as I knew no one would see them and I just wanted to see how the colour looked.

Monday morning....fab! Looks really, really nice, not as dark as I expected (was nervous about that so this was a good thing for me) it was sooooo easy to put on and I couldn't smell that awful fake tan smell.

So Monday night...my little girl was full of energy and eventually fell asleep lieing on me at 9.45pm!! I was exhausted (I'm 24 weeks pregnant too which doesn't help my energy levels at the mo!!) but determined to get the tan on my top half. Bad idea. I should have waited until I had the time and energy to do it properly.

The colour is lovely I am still v impressed with that and how quickly it dries....the only problem is I managed to get it streaked under one arm and my hands are a complete mess. I work in admin and I can see them while I type and they look awful lol!! but I am not blaming the tan it's my own silly fault for trying to do it half asleep.

Anyway....I really like it so once this layer scrubs off I am going to take the time one night when bubs is sleeping to do it all properly.

Oh and meant to say unfortunately you still get that horrible fake tan smell..not as strong as some I have tried but it's still there :O( Not had a chance to look at my sheets yet but will take a look tonight and hopefully no colour has come off on them!!

Thanks girls for bringing Siennasol to my attention.....I'm looking forward to trying it properly and letting you know how I get on lol!!

Thanks to the girls for giving me advice re my face too. When I seen my hands this morning I thought OMG what must my face be like but luckily it was fine. I just used the excess on the sponge to do my face ...lightly :O)

    xo
  • Good to hear you got on okish Lily73!, I find the tan comes off my hands quite quickly so hopefully you wont have to put up with that for long!

I actually kinda like the fake tan smell, as long as it's not too strong as it reminds me that I'm tanned. I think Glowgirl has mentioned this aswel, so you might learn to like it too! ;)

Well, day 3 for me & still going well. My feet are a bit of a funny mess though! I somehow missed the tips of my toes, so only the bottom half of my toes are tanned & they look hilarious. :rotfl: I should have been more careful around my heels too as it has taken more strongly where I had some dry skin. Hope it doesn't look too awful once in my strappy heels!! :o

My only issue is that although the colour is very good, it does still look like fake tan, but if I stuck to one layer this would be much less obvious, & Siennasol is by far the best I have tried. :T

Oh, I like the smell too, always have liked fake tan smell, and hair dye!
Proud to be a moneysaver :)

Hi everyone, how are we all getting on? Anything new to report?

I let my tan run down slightly this week, and I mean slightly;) for no reason other than that I was really busy I have noticed that when I don't use the ss every other day my skin itches so much and is really dry I'm guessing this means the product is moisturising when I use it but when I don't, oh gosh, it drives me insane:eek: just got to not work and keep applying ss:D

GFN123, sorry I didn't see your post before today:oI had a tanning session last night and have also messed up my feet so you are not alone (don't drink baileys and fake tan at the same time;))With regard to your tan looking fake, I'm not sure what to suggest, yes one layer is lighter in colour so could look less obvious or maybe the 16% is a bit too much for you? You could try Celebrity Secrets lower %. I would be interested in reading other suggestions. If you use fake tan I think that this might be one of the things you just have to accept, its never going to be a real tan but think of the health benefits and the time saved and of course you can have a great colour even when its snowing if you want to:D Just out of interest do you tell people its fake if you are asked? Its an interesting point cos I think some people who like a natural colour are put off of using fake tan because of this, any comments?:)
Thank you for this site Martin

  • hello everyone!

so i just typed a huge entry to this thread and it all got deleted when i wanted to post it! how much i hate when something like this happens! :)

so i will try to make it shorter now:)

i just read through all the comments and was amazed :) it was really interesting and took a loooong time :)
thank you all very much for all the helpful tips and tricks!

so first i wanted to say i have been to tanning beds usually... but i dont really like it... the colour i get is nice ( a nice brown) but i just dont really want to do that to my skin...
so now i tried using selftanners... i was pretty convinced to go out and order the siennasol... but the last few posts i think, made me worry... i am scared it might go on unnatural on me...
i have tried the st.moriz one on my body and it was ok... i think it was a little orange on me... on my face i was using the st.tropez rapide face dark... again kind of orange ( i mean, it wasnt anything dramatic but just too orange for my taste. i like a really natural brown looking tan and hate it when it does look fake). i am now in a dilemma and dont know if i am doing the right thing if i am getting the siennasol :). any more thoughts on the natural look of siennasol?? :)

the next thing is i would love to know if anyone has ever experienced hair dying with the siennasol?
i think i have read it on the siennasol website but i am not sure anymore... since i want to put it on my face as well i am a little worried about my hairline :)
i am a brunette so i actually dont think it is too risky for me but since i would like to use selftaners regularly i just wanted to see if anybody has an opinion about this :) !

last but not least ( i promise to stop blabing soon!) what moisturizers would you suggest to mix the siennasol with? i have somewhat oily skin and would like something that absorbs nicely and fast into skin and which is ok to mix with selftanner.

ok, this is it for now ;) i am sorry this took so long and you have to read through so much! but i thought since everybody here seems pretty experienced ;) i would give it a go!

thank you very much and you all have a great day! :)

ps: oh, and i was wondering if there is any site where there are perhaps pics of people with siennasol on...thanks a lot!

Hi thankyou4all and welcome:) Theres no getting away from the fact the Siennasol extreme is a dark colour but its a dark natural colour its hard to tell on the ss site if they do other % maybe it might be worth dropping them an email and asking, I would be interested in the answer as well, it does seem to come up quite a bit on the thread. Failing that I would have a look at the Celebrity Secrets site they have clear labeling of the different % they sell a rough guide would be that you cant really buy much more than an 8% on the high street and that would be Xen Tan, St Tropez etc the gradual self tanners are roughly a 2-4% I believe.

You said you had read (ploughed?) through the thread so you will have read about how skin tone can effect the end colour of your tan an example of this is 2 layers of ss extreme (16%) on me are still not as dark as 1 or 2 layers of 6% Celebriyy secrets on my daughter and it lasts longer on her although it does go more patchy when fading, my dd is a very light yellow olive tone and I am a pale pink tone so basically the more yellow you are it seems the darker the colour with less product or indeed a lower %.

Regarding dying your hair, I don't do my face as I don't have great skin and it just looks worse but I have had a go:rolleyes:I am also dark haired and never had any problem from any product including ss and cs, I do notice that it colours the hairs on my arms blonde which I think is a good thing:D

Sorry, cant answer about the mosituriser but Richard from ss put in his post on here not to use one with aha's and I am sure that FelinePrincess or others who do their face will give you good advice, best of luck let us know which product you choose and how you get on:)

  • Hi all!

I haven't experienced hair dying with siennasol, probably because it dries so quickly it doesn't really get on my hair. Not long before I started using siennasol I was convinced xen tan was dying my hair as my hair below the shoulders seemed much darker then the rest - I thought it must have been where my hair came into contact with the tan on my back before it dried properly but I have never noticed the hair on my arms changing colour so it's quite likely I imagined it! Either way if you have dark hair and your using siennasol I doubt it's anything to worry about :D

I have always thought siennasol was very natural looking - when I tell people my colour is from fake tan I get told it looks very natural and I often get "have you just been on holiday" comments from strangers. I use the siennasol extreme (16%) with booster drops to make it up to about 20% but I have also used the siennasol bronze (which I think is 10%) and I found the colour to be just as good just needs a few more applications to get as dark.

I couldn't recommend a moisturiser to mix with for your face as I just put it on straight and I don't actually use a moisturiser on my face at all, perhaps it's worth trying it straight to see how you get on? Just use whats left on your mitt after doing your body.

I tried to take some pics of my tan using my laptops built in webcam before but they didn't come out well and they looked much lighter then I really am. I am planning on buying a digital camera soon so will try again with that! I would also love to see what colour everyone else achieves with their siennasol!

Let us know how you get on with your tanning!

Hi Glowgirl :) Thanks for your reply.

I don't actually mind it looking fake & will 'fess up if asked! :D It certainly doesn't look as orange as everything else I've tried (St Tropez, Clarins, Loreal etc...) and the colour result is nice & deep, just my usual in-the-sun colour is a very dusky brown so I am always hoping a fake tan will get close, but that is asking a lot!!

The SS has been great to use. My feet are hilarious (user error!) but were covered up by my shoes for the wedding & I had a couple of comments along the "been on holiday" lines, so I probably think it looks more fake than others seem to :)

I ended up with 4 layers, and only now is it beginning to fade. It is not fading too patchily either, just beginning to go where I wash most (hands) & where my skin is driest. I had no problems using it on my face. I moisturised then used the leftovers on the mitt & it came out a lovely colour. I will upload a pic from the wedding later, there is one of me barefoot so you might see my white toes!! I think the colour looked really great.

    Thanks again girls :T

Morning fellow tanners:DI have good news to report:Dwell, for me anyway, I have been using the Oil Cleansing Method on my face for a week now and the results have been fantastic, so much so that last night while doing a layer of my beloved ss I put a very light application on my face:eek:regulars on here will know this is a big step for me but this morning I look good, darker than I thought I would be but still good:)Although my skin is much much improved its still not flawless by any stretch so my question is when you put the product on your face do you wear face make up as well? If you do what do you use? I felt I needed a bit of help this morning (or it could just be habit) and put a very very light layer of Vichy tinted moisturiser on, this looks nice but I do feel a bit, well naked:confused:I also have on cream Stilla blusher in a brown/pink colour and false eyelashes and a virtually neutral lip gloss from Tesco. Does anyone have any comments or advice for me? I will have to see how the colour on my face fades before I decide if I will carry on, do you layer on your face? If so how does it fade?

    Thanks for any replies:)

  • Hi Glowgirl!

Good to hear your face tanning turned out well, can't believe you took the plunge! The tan on my face seems to go darker than the rest of my body too. I don't tend to wear much make up in the day as I just can't be bothered, just mascara and lipgloss. If I wanted to make more of an effort for something important I used to wear foundation or tinted moisturiser - mainly to stop me looking pale but these days as long as I have ss on my face I'm happy as it gives me a glow but looks very natural - I'm always worrying that I come across as a bimbo! On the other hand, when I do want to get glammed up the whole make up bag comes out - tinted moisturiser, bronzer, highlighter, eyeliner, eye shaddow, mascara, lipliner and lipgloss! So in my opinion, if your skin is looking good you don't really NEED it but I do think that with make up, clothes, ect half of it is about how you feel so if you feel happier with more or less on then go with that :D I think your make up today sounds really nice :)

I find my face fades very quickly, if I didn't keep applying it to my face I would end up with a white face and brown body in 3 days! If you are like me then your face will probably be quite a bit lighter tomorrow and then almost back to normal the day after. If it goes a bit patchy - this happens to me sometimes as it stays on my cheeks better then the rest of my face then ends up going a bit patchy - I find a good scrub with a facial wipe sorts it out.

I do layer on my face, I apply tan to my face every time I put it on my body. When I have reached my desired colour on my body I don't apply it to my body for a few days but I would continue to apply to my face about every other day as it fades so quickly.

Even though it seems to develop darker on my face then body my face is usually a bit lighter then my body as my facial wipes always take a bit off, maybe I should apply more layers...

I look forward to hearing how you get on! :D
