There is a checklist somewhere on here showing what to keep in a first aid kit, I will have a look - I think it was Curry Queen or Queenie, although I may be wrong

Aww, thanks for remembering that :):) (I wrote about it in one of the Daily threads)
Here's the pertinent part of the original post:
Here are some links that I came across while researching, if anyone is interested:

Checklist for Medicine Box - I've printed off their list (with tick-y boxes ;) ) which I'll use as a shopping list, but also keep a copy inside the lid of the box.

Another List + Where to keep the medicine box
Airing out the medicine box (includes a bit on Winter meds/symptoms/what to use )
Where to Dispose of safely - this has an audio bit to listen to and relates to Tesco Pharmacy.

  • Am in process of making up a first aid kit (one for house/one for car), hopefully the os way-well as much as possible. Can anyone help me with any ideas?? What's in yours??

    like.....
    Baby wipes (for cleaning)
vinegar for wasp stings (can it be used for other insect bites??)
    paracetamol (children and adult version)
    avon skin-so-soft for midgee bites/repellant
    cotton wool pads

Im sure all our grannies/mothers all had first aid kits when we were young, but not sure how many ppl actually have one any more

was also thinking for the boot of the car:

wind up torch (which is also a mob phone charge)
    blanket?
whats that sweet ppl use for travelling, is it barley-lemons? (know its something like that)
    matches
    nappies (x2)
    bottle of un-opened water
    carrier bags/sick bags

obviously I will be putting the house one in an old ice-cream tub marked "FIRST AID" so no-one can mistake it

    thanks for your ideas....xxmyxx

i dont have one, i have a few plasters somewhere at the bottom of my junk drawer (my kids wont entertain them if they gets cuts or grazes so they probably all dried up lol) and paracetamol in the cupboard, had a free one when i joined the AA, i think that had a triangular bandage and some anticeptic cream in but i dont know where that went, if i need anything else i beg or borrow off neighbours or go to chemist............ guess im a bit laid back when it comes to first aid stuff
    mustn't grumble
  • i have recently bought some arnica cream for bruising (not broken skin) and some bach rescue remedy and did actually give some to my little dot (19 months) when she was v upset after a bump. I also could find some plasters if pushed but have never used them on children as far as i can remember do have some paracetamol at home (both pink stuff for girls and tablets for me but not used ever so often) and also some anti histamin as i have had few wasp stings that have had a nasty reaction

Arnica for bruises and bach rescue remedy. Anti-septic cream, pain kllers, sissors, small safety pins, crepe bandage, plasters, dry dressings and micropore, flat lolly pop sticks can be used to imobilise things like fingers just a few from off the top of my head.

We used to carry an old baby potty under the front seat, just in case......

Antiseptic wipes, plasters, TCP, Cotton wool, Arnica Cream, Paracetomol (kiddies & adults), Piriton, digital thermometer, those rehydration sachets, snuffle babe, olbas oil, karvol plug in, also bandages, scissors, safety pins. All in a wicker basket on top of the fridge.

In the car we dont really have anything but I always have a mini kit in the nappy bag with plasters, antiseptic wipes and arnica cream.

I also use to have a Mr Bump who lived in the fridge that was really good but he strung a leak so need to get a replacement.

    How about
    * a small pair of tweezers to remove any dreaded splinters/ stings/ anythign
else that could get lodged in little hands and knees etc (my mum once
knocked over cactus and then proceed to stumble upon it so had to
remove spines form heel of her foot
    * bandages/plasters - maybe plain ones for adults and a set of cheap kiddy
ones - wonders what a magic plaster can do? £1 shop maybe
    * how about some of the medical tape - is only about 50p for a small role
in some places - you could use that to secure bandages or cotton wool
pads in place on grazes etc

I know in mine i have
    *calpol/paracetemol
    *thermometer
*a few cheap sets of disposable gloves
    *plasters
    *small tube of savlon
    *cotton wool swabs
*2 unopened bandages - one small, one large
    *tweezers
    *tape
    *safety pins
*small safety scissors to cut tape or whatever else

    again how about......
    * some none perishable food? incase you are ever stranded etc - granola
bars, raisins,- you get what i mean
    * if its a pay as you go phone how about an extra top up card? - for
    emergencies only
    * batteries and a wind up radio?
    * few tools - pocketknife, duct tape
    * a mini first aid kit - incase you happen to be involved or come across an
    unhelped accident
    * spare sunglasses incase any are lost, misplaced, broken etc - especially in
the sun we usually have come summer

thankfully we dont have a car so i dont need one of these but i alwasy make sure if we do travel anywhere that is a fiar travel away that my son has a bag - (hes 2!) which contains spare clothes, a blankets, and a few food items for him - raisins, bananas, and we have a bottle of undiluted juice and a big bottle of water in the boot incase we get stuck - then me and bf have an emergency kit in the boot which has tools, a big blanket for us, more food, and the first aid kit in

i must sound reall yodd btu i always imagine the worst - not that there will ever be blizzard in south wales (shouldnt tempt fate with our latest weather! ) but if there is and im in the car - we'll be prepared at least!!!!!!

    hope that helped

I don't think you sound odd - you should see the looks I get when people see the CPR mask in my handbag! I hope I never have to use it, but always best to be prepared (my excuse for everything in said massive handbag, including a mini-first aid kit)
