I use the usual cocktail.... stardrops, vinegar and water. I apply with a damp cloth, wipe with a clean cloth and then buff with a microfibre cloth.

    Oh!

We lost a few threads last year when the site was maliciously attacked. I'll see if I can find something - just don't hold your breath. Sorry.

Edit: Sneaky trick #49.... when drying your windows - use up and down strokes for the inside and side to side ones for the outside*. That way you can tell which side of the window your smears (not that there should be any) are on.

    * But then I'm sure your OH tells you that all the time :)

I never have streaks on my windows and this is what I do.

Get a large bowl full of hot water and add about a desertspoonful of washing up liquid.

I get a largish cloth and an old tea towel, not fluffy, but an old linneny one. I wash the window with the cloth. I then rinse the cloth and wash the window again. I squeeze out the cloth and wipe the window. I then get the old tea towel and wipe the window dry. If I'm doing a lot of windows I sometimes need a second tea towel.

Until I discovered this method I always got streaks. I've tried others since, but always go back to this. Mind, I don't like cleaning windows and only do it when they look dirty. :o

Stardrops and hot water rubbed on with a sponge for me, then rubbed off with a squeedgie and polished with a scrunched up newspaper. ;)

Thank you for that sneaky tip, though not sure what you are inferring with the *. :D

A dash of Fairy Liquid (or similar) in warm water and mix until suds form.
Wipe a soapy rubber squeegy "windscreen wiper" across the windows.
Clean the wiper dry and drag across windows from right to left to remove soap..
Use a damp rag to catch and wipe away all the drips at the edges and base of the window.

This is what my window cleaner told me do. Why the hell does it work for him and not for me ???

Vingear solution and two microfibre cloths.

Spray vinegar solution on window, use one cloth to wipe over, use second cloth to finish. Takes seconds and produces perfect results every time.
  • On glass and mirrors I use a water spray bottle and an e-cloth (the glass cloth type - they seem to polish everything up really well)

If they are the outsides (or the kids have been near the insides  ) I tend to use a soapy cloth to remove any dirt/sticky finger prints - dry with a tea towel and then use the water spray and e-cloth to polish up.

I do cheat with the outsides though - since the last time a window cleaner quoted it was £15 per visit... You can get a spray that leaves a film on the outside of the window so that any water beads and runs down it does seem to keep them looking cleaner for longer - on the outside at least!
