You can login into a BT test account at the times when you get disconnected which will indicate if its Wanap00 or BT.

If you still get dropped whilst connected to the BT test account then its a BT line/exchange problem.

Ring BT and ask them for the test account username and pwd. Remember all your wanadoo settings though.

You have to laugh really, this is e-mail back -
    Dear Helen,
    Thank you for your email.
The powered USB hub is not a requirement, it was a suggestion as some
people may have access to one in order to test it.
The next step would probably be for us to replace the modem, either
contact our technical support line directly or provide answers to the
    details below.

We would like to help you but we need a couple more pieces of
information before we can get started. Please note that we always
respect the privacy of your personal information but we do need to
undertake some quick security checks for reasons under the Data
    Protection Act (DPA).

Please provide at least 3 of the following pieces of information:

    *Your full name
    *Your account email address
*Your telephone number from which you dial into the Internet
    *Your date of birth
    *Your postcode
*1st and 3rd characters of your password

My reply to them -Although if you look back in my records you will see that only recently did you replace my modem.

As i said before iam unable to deal with your technical support team, due to the numerous phone calls made to them and their compete pathetic advice, i was supposed to phone back yesterday for the results of the 5th line test but cannot phone as i know what their pathetice response is going to be.
I find it absoluely amazing that tech support by phone are adamant its a line problem, hence the 30,000 line checks and tech support by e-mail feel it a modem problem, maybe you can now see why people get so irate

Because its a BT line with Wanadoo connection ask BT for a temporary

    Hi Helen

I won't assume you read this nor a muppet .... http://help.wanadoo.co.uk/resultDisplay.do?gotoLink=177&docType=1006&contextId=69%3A177.238&docPropValue=kb351&clusterName=DefaultCluster&contentId=3cff6087-7735-4a6b-a43b-fdc91ba19c34&responseId=7fc004a3f2245237%3A100ebec%3A109d434d162%3A444b&groupId=1&answerGroup=2&score=379&page=http%3A%2F%2FESERVER_1bd81c6a-56d0-4bb5-822b-7be31c6887a8.xhtml&result=1&excerpt=Why+does+my+connection+drop+after+sending+or+receiving+email%3F&resultType=5002#Goto177 But Why this is only if you use outlook express or perhaps another email client  and how it stops broadband as it seems to be a dial-up issue.

Did anything else change before the problems started ? ( You was upgraded and they sent a new usb modem ? )
Is your alarm system plugged into a micro filter ?
What power management is the laptop using ? Are the USB ports being powered down ( right click over "my computer" select manage .. then device manager - then explore there for the yellow triangles etc )
What type of usb modem do you have ? ( is it the Livebox thingy )

And this is the script thet wandoodoo techs are using

apologies if answers already in post but could not see em .... :o

I had a right nightmare back in the ADSL days.

My 1st ISP was btinernet, nothing but drops, not re-connecting, slow up and down speeds, very annoying.

BT did all sorts (or so they told me) of tests, we could hear static on the line on wintery moist days but BT will not change a line unless you pay the ££££'s or kidnap Mr BT. They stated that it could be an internal wiring fault, but after explainig I didnt install it as a BT engineer did they soon changed there minds. If they boosted the line I could hear static and get drops, if they didnt boost the line my SNR was too !!!!!!.

After getting nowhere I solved my problems with a good quality router. Didnt get one drop after that.......so I believe the modem has a lot to do with it, if the modem is fussy about certain stuff then this is a killer.

    Hey Helen just remembered

I lost my BT line recently and went to a call box/payphone to report it via 151 - was a totally auto-response thing    Or so I thought

    But
It did a complete line test and reported the fault and I was able book a BT engineer to appear when I was at home... but was no need as the fault was fixed in about 3 hours ... so if you want to get rid of humans ... just let the computers do your testing there were alsorts of option in the menu and I could swear as freely and as loudly as I wanted but that is the safest/normal :rotfl:  way to use a payphone around my way ....HTH ....
