Internet connection help

Having problems with dropping of connection and getting no-where fast with wanadoo by phone, so e-mailed them and this is there reply
Dear Helen,This could be a line issue although as you said the modem sometimes goes off and has to be replugged to come back on this would suggest a power issue.
A possible way to resolve this is to update your USB chipset drivers as
these control power to the modem and an update can often resolve this
sort of problem.

Also the following may be of assisstance to this.

1) Try to switch off / disconnect any additional USB devices from your
computer when they are not in use (e.g. Printer / Scanner etc).

2) Try your USB modem in a different USB socket. The two sockets
connected directly to the motherboard (normally located on the back of
the computer) should offer the best experience.

3) Consider purchasing an externally powered USB hub. This should have
a separate mains plug and offer two or more additional USB ports. A
USB
hub that does not have its own mains adaptor (a 'passive' hub) will not
be suitable.

Right have done all of the above already  what is 3)?

    Thats a USB Hub...

You want one with a plug on it that goes into the Mains.....

So it wont drain PC power.

Well they are but I would say why didnt they tell you that
its your problem before getting a wanadoo account/connection

I reckon they are copping out as I would tell them
that they should supply a hub.

I dont think he would help  :rotfl: :rotfl:

If you are using Braod Band Via a phone line

    I would..

    Check any extension phoneline Cables..

Maybe buy a high gain extension phoneline cable

Extension cables are reccomended not to be longer than 5mtrs .

Get the phone line supplier i.e BT to boost the Gain (thats free)
it may already be at full boost...

This is all if your Connection runs off a phoneline.

A laptop is just a tool so its not the lappy's fault. :)

NO their is no pattern at all. Been with them a year, in jan they put me on 2meg for 14-99 (so cheaper) two weels later i lost connection for 24 hours, they said bt working on exchange, 2 weeks later i lost connection for 30+hours again they did line check and this time said they needed to do it again, following that i now have continual connection dropping, it has got worse but wanadoo have done 5 line checks and everytime i phone then they say they gonna do another line check as that one didnt work, i cant phone them any more cause i end up screaming and swearing down the phone at them :o

Unless you have a lot of devices in your PC, plugging it into the USB port on the back of the computer should be fine.

I'd say your line can't support a stable connection at 2meg. What spped were you on before? It would brobably be more stable going down to 1meg.

i was on 1 meg, but surely as i have said before if it was unable to take 2 meg it would have always been this. I have nothing else plugged into lappy, lappy less than 1 year old.
