  • Got a red one of these in jan, it came superbly packed and is excellent value for money.

One thing that I've done is replaced the strings with a set of Ernie Ball Super Slinkys, plays like a dream now...

Yup, you cant fault 'Ernie Ball Super Slinkys' my husbands choice, can get them around £4-5 on ebay, and they come in a fab pink package! Im thinking of getting one of these guitars myself as Ive heard they are great for beginners, but can I justify spending £10 more on the black version or am I just being vain. :p

We went to see the darkness at the NEC a couple of weeks ago, seeing those guys rock out so superbly has spurred me on to learn something new! Though Ive heard that when beginners start their fingers can become terribly sore and even bleed, and Im worried I wont be able to view mse if I cant type! Any tips on how to minimise the old pinkys getting cut up? or do I just have to grin and bear it untill my finger tips harden up. Maybe I should wear a michael jackson style white glove! heee heee! :D

P.s. Does anyone have a link to the KCC manufactures website as I cant find it, and wouldnt mind reading up a bit more about this guitar.

grin and bear it... Its not that bad to be honest, especially if you limit it to an hour or two practice each day.

    Hi
Here's a few pearls from me
I got the red one in jan for £49.99 plus delivery. It's great !!!
It seems to have gone up a tenner since. (Blue is just not rock 'n' roll ;) )

KCC are Kuan Chou Chen Enterprise
they don't seem to have their own web site but I found out about them before I bought my one.

KUAN CHOU CHEN ENTERPRISE CO., LTD., funded in 1978, Taichung City, is a specialized large manufacturer of electric guitar, electric bass guitar, western guitar, classical guitar, toy guitar and violin of different style and category. Under the management and leadership of the founder, Mr. Chen, with his insist of high quality and best customer service, Kuan Chou Chen Enterprise has expanded continuously in both size and production. The Taiwan head quarter is the center of product development and sales. Manufacture center has transited to Summco Guitar & Toys Factory ?V a large guitar manufacturer and exporter in Guangdong, China with 68000 square meter of area. We processed high product ability and technical labor, which enabled our annual product quantity over 1200000 pieces, bringing us to the leading position of world guitar manufacturer.
The hard work and progress of Kuan Chou Chen Enterprise has won approval and recognition from everywhere. Summco has been rewarded the title of ??Most Trustable Enterprise?? every year for ten years. The factory has been certified by Chinese Importation/Exportation Quality Center, and also certified by ISO-9001:2000 for Chinese Guitar and Musical Instruments. Meanwhile, with our promise and commitment to quality, technich, punctuation and service, we have won approval and OEM cooperation from world known brands.
    SUMMCO GUITAR & TOYS FACTORY:
Address: LING HWU INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT, CHIUCHANG TOWN, HUIYANG DIST., HUIZHOU CITY, GUANGDONG, CHINA.
    Land area: 68000 square meters
    Plant area: 50000 square meters
Category: Taiwanese investment enterprise, own land, own construction, own plant.
    Employees: 1000
Ideal: Total involvement, continuous improving, to carry out best product quality. Total cooperation, continuous work, to satisfy customer??s requirement.
Policy: Quality first, honour first, everything for perfection.
Kuan Chou Chen Enterprise will carry on our ideals and policy to serve all customers, and will keep on hard working to improve until perfection

So KCC is the brand and they are made by Summco.

I looked at similar guitars by Aria, Encore as well as top brand guitars and every one looked the same. Even examining the pictures closely, they all look like they are exactly the same product (not just a close copy). My suspicion is that they are all made in the same place.
(perhaps we ened a great guitar manufacturer hunt)

So for a novice, I'd wholeheartedly recommend one.

    Go for it !!!

salthegal, KCC are a chinese company and I'm pretty sure they don't have a website. The info on Ebuyer is pretty much all there is going to be, but if you want general info on the guitar, such as the pickup config etc, try "strat replica" in google, but for what I know of these, normally they comprise of a 5 way selector switch, 3 single coil pickups, a tremolo, 1 volume control, and 2 tone controls (for what thats worth) :D oh and they are basically the same as the Encore range of strat in the Argos cat.

PS. If anyone is going for this package, I reccomend spending an Extra tenner for a "Quik tune" electric guitar tuner (I found them for 7 quid via Froogle) the only thing worse than sounding terrible on a guitar is sounding terrible on an out of tune guitar :D (you get a pitch pipe with the kit, but unless you have an extremly good ear for musical notes, they are useless) :p

Thankyou so much for your help, im so looking forward to learning something new, I have always regretted not learning an instrument when I was younger, its probably going to be a lot harder to pick up at my age, but better late than never! Can anyone recommend a good electric guitar beginners book, dvd, or even website? Im sure the best way to learn will probably be a tutor but I havent really the time or money for this, so a book, dvd, or website will be my best chance of learning. Ive had a look on amazon and there are soooooo many to choose from! So any advice from any guitar legends out there would be greatly appreciated. :T

I learnt myself from a couple of videos, a step by step book and a guide to chords manual, the videos were free with the Fender electric and acoustic packages which were my first guitars. So I think anything will do, best thing is to take a look in your local music shop and see what they have, have a flick through the books and see what suites you best :)

I wonder why the red one is £10 more?

I've seen very little criticism of these, and they seem a genuine bargain. The other KCC guitars that occasionally appear on Ebuyer also seem to get good crits - the acoustic ones are/were staggeringly cheap!
  • if your gonna tune the guitar (which you'll probably need to do out of the box), then grab aptuner from here https://www.aptuner.com and simply plug the guitar into the mic input of your soundcard (with the correct leads!)
