Its just that my other half has a pretty meaty denon system (about £3ks worth and pretty powerful) and I was wondering if it would be useful to hook the guitar upto this rather than forking out for a new amp, or will it sound pants?
Edit:
You can but not directly. Your hifi will have stereo line ins and the guitar is mono. Guitars prefer instrument inputs which are high impedance while line inputs are low impedance. This means the pickups aren't driven properly and the sound isn't good. You need something that acts as preamp inbetween. I do this with guitar effects units that have line outs. A key part of the electric guitar sound is the amp so these effects unit simulate the sound you get with an amp. Without this you get what is called a DI (direct input) sound which again is rather lacking.0 -

there's a school of thought that suggests starting with a nylon-string classical guitar is probably the best route forward. aside from anything else, the nylon strings are softer and less painful to play when your fingers aren't accustomed to steel strings (think cheese wire and you're not far wrong).
personally, i don't think it matter all that much - if you want to play electric, get one, and see how you get on. i started on nylon, though, and do recommend that approach to anyone who asks. aside from anything else, you can pick up a cheap second hand nylon guitar for about £20 to see how you get on with it - much cheaper way to start!
While your right about nylons the general consensus is that electrics are easier to learn on. Nylons have wide necks and the action is high (height of strings above the fretboard) especially on cheaper guitars. Electrics have less wide necks which are also thinner and the action is much lower so there's less pressing required, although as you say more of a cheesewire effect. Of course with cheap electrics that haven't been set up or even if they are set up it's hard to get a good low action without getting buzzing.
Although cheap guitars don't sound great because of cheap pickups and cheap wood most people aren't going to notice too much especially if the've never played something decent. I have a cheap single pickup Encore which cost £29 in a sale which I quite enjoy playing when not plugged in but compared to my other half decent cheap guitar, which is far heavier and has 2 pickups, it sounds rather gutless.0 -
Is it suitable for left handers or it needs a DIY, by turning it upside down?
Anyone knows of a similar deal for a classic guitar?

Go to your local guitar shop and try a few. They are not all the same.
Check out the Aria etc at https://www.hartnoll-guitars.co.uk for a good quality 'low cost' guitar
I can certainly agree that the service and prices at Hartnolls are excellent - I bought a guitar from there as a Christmas present for my daughter which was cheaper than other online shops by a long way. He does not have them sent direct to you from the manufacturer as many others do, but prefers to look them over himself first and give them a few tweaks to set them up. Very helful when you phone as well. Thoroughly recommended.
Having said all that, I now want a cheap but usable guitar to have a go with myself, but don't feel that I can justify spending as much as I did on my daughter. I think for £50 this one has got to be worth a go, and if I make progress I'll move on to something better.0 -
I spent all night last night trying to tell myself that £10 more for the guitar in black was no big deal, I was pretty gutted to see it at the cheaper price today (having paid extra for it last night). Thankfully the site has the incredibly useful feature of 'replacing' a current order, so I now get the guitar I wanted for £10 less, WOOHOO!!! :money:bartman wrote:I think for £50 this one has got to be worth a go, and if I make progress I'll move on to something better.
Anyway, got a bit serious there so on a more light hearted note - WOOHOO I'm getting a guitar :T0 -

WOAH, I ordered the black one last night too! THANK YOU SO MUCH for the heads up that is been reduced by £10 and that you can replace the order - I've just done that.
It went through, but the order before said they've taken payment already. I assume they'll refund me £10? Will I have to ask?
And yes, woohoo. I'm getting a cheap leccy guitar. You can all have free tickets for my first arena tour...0 -

I've ordered the black guitar at the cheaper price! !
I'm really excited but now kind of put off a bit by some of the comments - maybe I was a bit too hasty? Anyway, I probably won't be able to tell for a while if it's decent or not and as JD Power says it's a cheap way of finding out if I get on with learning the electric guitar - I'll flog it if not!
Woo Hoo! Hurry up postman!0 -
I see it as a worthy investment. Many people have said its good kit for the money, and even if you don't like it you could surely sell it on for cost price or maybe even make a little profit?0
