£54 is still a lot of money to spend on junk.
While the Squier (presumably if you had one you'd be able to spell it) may be a good guitar, it is quite a bit dearer than the KCC Strat at Ebuyer. I bought one of these earlier this year, and I (and my guitar tutor) consider it to be a decent instrument and excellent value.
On a related note, I see that Ebuyer now have a Les Paul replica for £52.32

If it's as good as the KCC Strat I might have to have one!0 -
There are loads of Squiers and pacificas on ebay for less than £70.
Sorry but I stand by my opinion - I'm all for saving money and all, but I honestly think that in the long run- a cheap 'n nasty guitar will last a few months (e.g. if its not nice to play, it will end up at the next car boot sale). You just a few pounds more you can have a well built guitar that will last for years.
If you want to read reviews of any 2nd hand guitars you find on ebay or local free ads - this is THE website to read up on them

I may be looking for an Epiphone Les Paul Standard. Can anyone point me in the right direction or offer advice? Any recommendations & where am I best to look for good prices and/or use voucher codes?
Best I seem to have found is @ Thomann it's £275.37. I have had a wee look around, but have no idea about anything musical! Does that sound good?

The Yamaha Pacifica 112 has regularly been voted/reviewed as the best entry level guitar for about the past ten years - and will be superior to this ebuyer guitar in almost every way. If you can pick up a good condition second hand one for an extra 20 notes as stated above you will not regret it.
Not only will it be a better guitar in every way and much more rewarding to play - if you dont want to keep it you will be able to sell it on for about the same as you paid for it. You will not be able to do that with the ebuyer guitar.0 -

Have you considered the Vintage V100 as an alternative. Les Paul Looks - same construction as the epiphone and you don't pay extra for the name/badge?0 -
Will get my son to have a look, thanks for the tip! I feel so unsure about this guitar thing!0

OK - so he wants a guitar. First thing is - how much do you want to spend, obviously the more expensive guitars are better quality - however some of the guitar demand a bit extra because of the brand name. Also some of the stores promote some guitars over others because of mark-ups etc. It sounds like you have up to £270ish to spend - which is plenty for a good quality starter guitar.
2nd question is what type of music does he like? If its indie, punk, rock blues, or heavy metal etc there are different types/styles of guitar that suit these kinds of music better. And they look the part - whch could be important.
If you want to be particularly sensible about it - you should consider second hand - there are plenty of people that give up playing or decide to trade up which makes their old guitars great value.
Feel free to PM me if you need any help.
If in Glasgow - check out Merchant City Music or "The Guitar Store" Argyle Street
Hope this helps.0 -

I took your advice and read the review for the KCC package. (Have you ?)
It gives a rating of 10 out of 10.
So compare your single negative view of it (without having seen it) with the positive review of the site you suggested and they cancel each other out.
Then add in the probably 50 individual comments in this thread that speak positively then anyone reading this thread can make up their own mind who to believe.
Personally my one is great and I don't think you can go wrong for £50. If I broke it tommorow I would have had my moneys worth. For a beginner I'd definately recommend it.0 -
Bought 2 of these last year for my son and husband (that has played guitars for many years) and they still love them.
Other than the odd string breaking (normal) there has been absolutely nothing wrong with them.
They are lovely to play and great to learn on. I have even picked up a few tunes on them myself and I am not musical in the slightest.
Thoroughly recommend these quitars and I know as the last poster siad that many many more are also. Its better to be late in this life than early in the next one.

Anybody else get hold of the Netto electric guitar package for £50? My mate bought one and it seems pretty good for learning on.
Action is quite low and it's very playable....0
