Ebay feedback - Is anyone from ebay reading? I have some suggestions

  • I have a question for the "I mark down on dsrs if the postage for that brick is more than £1 / if they don't leave feedback first / if they don't tug their forelock and bow and scrape enough after I've given them £4.67 of MY money" brigade.

Do you email the sellers to tell them your arbitrary rules so that they can abide by them, or do you leave them in the dark and hope that they they commit a perceived infraction so that you can punish them?

First of all RFW my lovely, I didn't say that I mistrusted all my customers - but yes honey I have had some pretty bad experiences. The police have had to be involved once or twice.

:D means I was being playful, joking or being a tongue in cheek.

(Even though what I said was true. Some scammers can't wait to pay so that they can get started! I was not referring to all ebayers. I was talking about some of the difficult buyers in the post I was responding to.)

Most of my buyers are lovely, but just as society has laws to protect itself against a criminal minority my own personal eBay rules aim to protect me from the same criminal minority.

I hope that clarifies my position hon, :D

Sorry you feel you have to be so cynical regarding customers, must be stressful.

OP, my first thought was, are you for real. It seems that you are taking it very seriously. Why is a seller rude if they do not leave you feedback first?

I do not think that there should be 'rules' about who leaves feedback first. I think that it makes more sense for the buyer to leave feedback first as this shows that they are happy/unhappy.

A good buyer is not just someone who pays quickly. A buyer can pay quickly but expect the item to arrive the next day. Why should a buyer that is a pain in the a**e get a +ve? OP, you have said that a buyer if unreasonable (can't remember exact wording) should get a -ve so would it not make sense not to leave feedback straight after the payment has been made.

When a seller sells goods the buyer normally gets something in return. OP, you make it sound that the seller should be eternally grateful for your custom.

Just because a seller posts the next day does not mean the buyer gets a quick delivery and not all parcels have a date on them. It is nice if a seller lets the buyer know the goods have been dispatched but if they have a lot of sales or a life you can understand why this may not be possible.

Not leaving feedback first does not equal scammer.

I would urge any buyer to never leave any more than 4 stars for a vendor who doesn't leave feedback first

No thanks. I'd rather leave honest ratings which actually say something about the experience I've had rather than follow some bull**** "rule".

I sell on ebay and leave feedback the minute they pay. They have done their job by paying, then it's my job to make sure they are happy with their goods.

If I was worried about them leaving bad feedback then I should consider selling better products!

There is however, a new breed of buyers. Your product could be 100% but they will still give you a load of grieve and leave poor feedback because they know they can.

TBH as a buyer myself I do think that sellers should leave feedback as soon as a buyer has paid, as in my mind the buyer has fulfilled their obligations in the transaction, I always feel (well not so much now since sellers can't leave a neg) that sellers are going to leave feedback dependent on the feedback they receive, this is unfair, they should leave feedback based on how quickly they were paid and whether any communication prior to this from the buyer was done courteously. Once they have been paid, if there is any follow up issues this should not affect the feedback they leave for the buyer anyway

Milliemonster, you have got a point there. I suppose that if for example the item was for pick up only. If the buyer had good comms and picked up as agreed then there is no reason for the seller not to leave feedback first. I suppose there are no hard and fast rules. As has already been highlighted, when has a transaction been completed?

OP, I guess that it is slightly annoying if you leave feedback but the other party doesn't. It is not worth worrying about though. I think only leaving a max of 4 stars is unfair but each to is own. You come across as a buyer that sellers would probably want to add to their block list but maybe you are not as 'grumpy' as you seem.

I tend to leave feedback in one go. I do try to make an effort to do so regularly but sometimes forget. In the past most of my feedback has been the same(copied and pasted) unless I have not been happy. I am trying to make my feedback more personal as sometimes there are sellers that go the extra mile. Reading this thread has made me think that I should put more effort in when leaving feedback.

You still seem convinced in some strangely delusional way that feedback actually matters more than the product or service - but nonetheless, gives me good reason to wheel out this one again...
