Ebay feedback - Is anyone from ebay reading? I have some suggestions

On my ebay account I usually buy 99% of the time and sell 1% of the time. I have the impression lots of other people are like this too.

What hacks me off about feedback as a buyer:

Sellers who won't leave me feedback until I leave some for them first.

Now let me see. I have to trust a vendor that they've truthfully listed their item and that they indeed will post it to me because i am expected to pay 1st.

I send my money out into the abyss most often within an hour of winning an item (certainly within a day if I've been out when the auction has ended) - and sure, usually my items arrive within 3 or 4 working days. Why don't sellers leave feedback when I pay????????????????????????

I'm glad we have this star rating. Any vendor (about 85% of them) who doesn't leave me feedback first can only score 4 stars on each of the rateable items. I only ever give myself the option of leaving 5 stars if I've had feedback first.

And having left feedback for an item I've bought. It's amazing how many people don't actually reciprocate and leave any for me anyway.

Yet I trusted them to list honestly and sent my money - usually within the hour. What else can I do to get the God-damned sons of b******s to do the right thing and leave me feedback when they post the God-damned items??!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Ebay - are you listening???????

Taking away a seller's right to leave a negative wasn't the answer - though it certainly stopped spiteful poor sellers from leaving unwarranted libel where purchasers leave fair reflections of a lack of service... But when a seller can't leave a buyer a negative which is justified... Well it's just unfair.

So what's the solution?

What about ebay setting a 6 week (that's 42 day limit) to leave feedback good, neutral or bad but apply these rules:

The first rule is that no feedback for any item is shown until either both parties have left feedback or 42 days from the end of the auction have elapsed, whichever is sooner.

Other rules would be: Buyer leaves a +ve but seller leaves nothing. After 42 days, the buyer gets a +1, the seller's score stays unchanged

No comments are shown until both parties have left feedback - that way 'feedback extortion' would be minimised. If I've bought your widgin and you've not posted it for a fortnight and not told me why, you ought to know you're likely to not get a +ve - but you won't know for sure until you've left me feedback yourself!

If one party leaves a neutral or negative and the other desn't bother then after 42 days the point is taken off the person complained about's side.

Anyone else have any observations??

And if in the meantime, while anyone from ebay thinks about this, to get the vendors leaving feedback when they should (like when they post the stuff because they have actually had our money), pass the word to others too... don'tleave any more than 4 stars

    Whats the problem with a seller leaving you feedback after you have ?

    How else is the seller supposed to know that you have safely received the item and are happy with it ?

    As a seller I always leave feedback once I have received feedback, that way I know the item is received & the buyer is happy with the transaction.
    As a buyer I do not expect feedback from the seller until I have left feedback.
    I feel that it signifies the end of the transaction.
    Also alot of trust is also involved on behalf of the seller, you send the item in good faith knowing that at any point the buyer could claim its not as described or broken etc & can get a full refund from Paypal & you are left out of pocket, with an item that is now unsaleable.
    As with everything in life there are good & bad sellers & buyers. The majority sell in good faith & buy in good faith, but the few who dont make can spoil it for us all.

    If you've sold me something, where I paid for the item within 10 minutes of the auction ending, EHAT ELSE CAN I DO TO GET A +VE??????? Shouldn't I get one as you despatch my items????

    Or, as a seller, are you worried about that tear in the corder that you didn't list and just want to hold back on the feedback incase I (justifiably in some cases,MOAN about it)???

    You will know when the item I trusted you'd described properly and posted within a reasonable time (or kept me informed where possible {because telepathy isn't one of my best skills}) arrives and I leave you feedback thanking you and praising you for doing what you should do - which is accept my money, despatch my item, and leave me feedback!

    Like I say, you can only score 4 out of 5 stars if I have to go first,...

    And I am still looking for views on "blind feedback" - where no feedback is displayed until both sides have left appropriate feedback or 42 days have elapsed.... And where only one side has left feedback, only the none-leaving feedback side suffers (f a neutral of -ve has been left) or loses out if a +ve had been left.

    When I buy something and pay promptly having invested trust in the vendor, isn't that a +ve thing to have done?

    Why no immediate feedback then? Because you may have inadvertently omitted important info, decided to wait a week before posting what I paid for within minutes????

    And there is still a fair percentage of vendors who never leave feedback even when a positive is left - which I think is ignorant

    Do you really care about feedback that much? I wouldn't even know whether I've been left feedback or not from a seller. Life's too short!

    Have to say as a seller I used to wait until after it was received, I switched last year to leave immediately after payment, it improves customer satisfaction.

    There aren't really any massive changes that can be made to feedback now and there won't be. Sellers won't be able to leave negative feedback for buyers again

  • The OP is a serious need of getting a life.

    I'm a PS with feedback in the thousands at 99.9% and I only leave feedback once it's been left for me as I then know that the buyer is happy and the transaction is closed.

    As my DSRs are all around 4.9 I guess it works.

    Frankly I don't spend my time worrying that much about feedback, ebay is such a tiny part of my life that I don't lose sleep over such things. If I never get any more feedback then so be it. As a seller I have more than enough, as a buyer who cares?

    Why leave positive feedback just because someone has paid? What if they then went on to be a pain in the backside? What if the item wasn't received and they sent abusive emails? What if they did a chargeback? The transaction is not complete just because someone has paid.
