The house next door to me came on the market 18 months ago after my long time neighbor died. well it was the height of the market and a very young couple of 19 and 21 snapped it up at asking price.

The couple who moved in were very nice but a bit short of life experience and we got on well. The next thing is he tells me he has just got a loan because the house needed doing up (which it did)
so over the next six months they spend a fortune doing the place up to a high standard and putting so much effort in to the place i admired him.
The problem is how are they paying for all this.well it turned out that she was working full time nights at the local asda and he was a sales manager at mfi..
They actually used to pass each other going in and out of the house to work while swapping the car and i wondered what sort of life is that...well about 9 months ago he got laid off from mfi and could not get any work or good benifits because she worked full time..
they struggled for a few months but just could not make ends meet and finally gave up and she moved back with her parents with her two small children and he is knowhere to be seen.
Well today the house has been repposessed and the 14 day notice has gone up in the window....
how many others out there like this are there and in these uncertain times is buying worth the risk. i forgot to add that these two had moved from a rented council house.
Just goes to show how important timing is whether you succeed or fail...

I suspect geofky enjoyed posting this. Look at the thread title "tried but failed".

...and thanked 8 times (and counting) by the usual doomers who get off on other people's misfortune.

    LOOK before you jump...
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

Would like to belive you on this one Geoff but a couple of things stick out

1)They must have had the kids one on top of another to have two kids in less than 18 months.
    2) They moved out of the house before reposession.
    3) how did they have a council house before children?

I know the meaning of the story but it is layed on reasonbaly thick.;)

But if true best of luck to them:)

We moved out a few days before our house was repossessed.

The other two points do concern me though...although it is possible to have 2 children in 18 months, there is only 15 months between my two youngest and she may have been pregnant or already had one when they moved in.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

My mother had 3 kids in 15 months. Me and my twin brother came a little more than a year after my sister. My poor, poor, mother.

There is a lot of difference between parts of the north, and the south... I knew someone in manchester who had a council flat as young as 16. Plus, people are generally offered council housing if they come out of care.

I agree there Sue but having one child then effects your affordability on a mortgage.
If she did not have one before it would have been virtualy impossible to get a council house as I am sure you know.

I think the story is a good outline of what can happen but I still take it with a pinch (well fist:)) of salt.

I make that 24 moths, I am sure your mother counted the pregnancy of your sister even if you did not.;):D
I think perhaps the title holds the best key "A tale of" (fruedian slip perhaps), but we may never know.

Sad story but I am sure two 18/19 year olds (esp with kids) would have struggled to buy a house in the 50's, 60's.70's,80's and 90's unless they had caught some very opportune market bottoms. I obviously exclude currrent footballers/celebrities etc in that.
I suppose what I am trying to say is, what is the point being made
