I must admit they did well to get a house at the peek on such low wages at that age (I could only purchase in 2001 at aged 25).

Not discounting your story geoff but that must be about 6.5X joint without afford ability taken in to account.

Perhaps a good lesson on why we wont go to such mad sub prime lending.

I don't understand why she would choose to work nights at ASDA. Surely there are better day jobs out there.

19 and 21 is way too young to make such monumental life decisions.

In your world maybe everyone has choices but in my real world some people dont have much choice.....ps i had been in two wars at the age of 21 i would like to think that maybe you did not have much sense at 21...and i bought my first house at 18...god big decisions for one such age......bollox
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

You strike me as the kind of neighbour that would do that, whilst sniggering behind your curtains as the removal men empty the place.
Voicing 'i knew that would happen to them'.
So out of touch...why would they have removal men if they cant even pay the mortgage???? most repos leave most of the stuff there...

sounds sad, but unfortunately they represented the 'i want it now' attitude that alot of us are guilty of having.

Weirdly i never had this attitude and actually saved 10 grand over 2.5 years to buy a nearly new car... without finance... i made do taking the bus, skimping and saving for 2 years..... without getting into debt.

If i can do it, others can do too. What you got to remember is that all credit cards do is ensure you pay more for things you want or can get... and so in the end you actually have less things had you not just waited and saved up for them.

What they needed to do was live in it without spending crazy amounts and save for things.... save for a rainy day!
