Evening All
Glad you came through OK Hester
Congratulations Hockey & Csarina
Sympathies to Pink's DH being invaded by 3 females!;)
Have a good holiday Meanmarie
Stef - Get the ground rules in place, and next time pretend you went out without your purse.
So lovely we can have a good discussion without any dummies being thrown:D
Well good news from me is that the tests came back and found no underlying cause for the BP. Still high and more tablets prescribed, but it will have to remain a mystery to the cause. Maybe too much OSing causing the stress. If nothing else turns up I'll blame OH:p. Dr well impressed with the 4kg weight loss. I want to get down a size so will continue while I can.
No further news from M.
Take care - DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Stef you so absolutely should "do a tru".
OS for me means not wasting things. My gran had very little when my mum and my aunties and uncles were young. She was delighted when labour saving devices became available, and was happy to use them, but nothing was wasted.
I use my freezer for YS stuff, and odds and sods of left over things that will do a meal or two more. My gran didn't need this - between her and my grandad they had 8 children. I don't think "leftovers" was a familiar concept. I prefer to cook from scratch, and my little boy who is 4 can list the ingredients for cakes and biscuits that we make together. That is OS to me.
I like to keep my family and myself and our house clean and presentable. A bit of an uphill struggle with the Victorian relic of a house, but I try. It is done without a huge arsenal of cleaning products. I have asthma and prefer to keep the chemical input down if I can.
I have flowerbeds in my garden - well, they used to be flowerbeds. Now they have raspberries, blackberries and rhubarb planted in them. I need to work on the strawberries as last year ds bought them in one by one as they became ripe.... I also have a small apple tree. I try to grow my own salad leaves and tomatoes in the warmer weather.
I try to be a good neighbour too. I'm not sure if that is OS or not, but I help my neighbours and they help me.
I do have an OS failure - I have sugar on my porridge, not salt. My gran came from Inverness and always said that sugar was so wrong :rotfl: Can't win 'em all.0 -
Evening all
Hester - Didn't get a chance to post this morning, but I'm sorry you had such a hard day - well done for having the strength to go; I'm sure it meant a huge amount to your step mother and truly is a testament to how selfless you are that you did it when it carried so much emotion for you.
Stef - Yep, it's more important to do a tru on holiday 'cause it's your holiday too.
Hockeyduo - Well done you!
Csarina - Well done!Make sure you relax this evening
The discussion today really did make me think (thanks tru) OS for me is about developing skills and being practical. I like the fact my mum taught me to knit, crochet and mend things. I like the fact I don't get stressed if I tear something because i know I can (sort of) fix it. I like being able to cook and having the courage to try and experiment. I like not being flustered by running out of bread, milk, eggs or for spilling something on the carpet. I like the calmness and "making do" ethos of OS
Still in Exeter - and to the person that one posted ages ago that you can make omelettes in a plastic bag - I love youYou can do it in the kettle too

I can do the crochet, embroidery, mending and knitting stuff too. My nana taught me. One of my friends at work told me I'll be a lovely gran - my only ds is 4!
The omelette sounds interesting. I hope I never have to find out how interesting!0 -

:rotfl::rotfl: I will consider it a labour saving multitasking thing. How OS is that
Stradrops'll shift it :rotfl::rotfl:
I have learnt the art of wrapping things up in clingfilm and boiling them repeatedly until they are cooked over the last few days :rotfl::rotfl:I have a mate who is a chef and they used to poach chicken like that in the resturant. But probably not in a kettle:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
Ok, second attempt to post!
Evening, folks!
Hugs to all who need/want them, especially Katie, Hester and stefejb! Congratulations to HockeyDuo and Csarina.
I am a happy bunny tonight, having been to Slimming World and lost 1 and a half pounds, which leaves me only 1 lb to go before I hit target :T !
Turning to tru's query regarding OS, I think that it is down to each person's personal circumstances. I am single, work full-time and live in a one bedroom flat on the second floor, so nowhere for gardening or hanging out washing. I have also been trying to lose weight for almost a year, so no baking bread or cakes.
However, I do a lot of things differently thanks to this board. I use Lakeland washballs and white vinegar in my laundry. I bought a large airer which lives in my lounge, and only tumble dry when really necessary. I kept my heating off until last November and switched it back off on 1 April this year. Everything that can be turned off at the socket is turned off until needed, and then turned back off again afterwards. I've joined the imeasure website and take meter readings every week. I do cook from scratch more and am the proud owner of a slow cooker, although not a breadmaker or a Remoska. I have lots of Lock n Lock boxes for keeping HM meals in the freezer. I've regained my enthusiasm for cross stitch and am working on a birthday card for my stepaunt, which I wouldn't have done before.
But best of all, I now have a virtual community of friends who educate and advise each other, who tell amusing stories about their daily lives, who celebrate with one another in the good times, and support each other in the bad times!
I think that you are all wonderful, so thank you very much.
