Hello - nice thread, just what I was looking for. Ging to view venues on Thurs and its all going to be totally DIY. Ideas so far -

Making save the date & invites
    Making toast drink
    Own flowers
    Own centre pieces
    Fascinator

    favours
    napkins & bunting
    cake..... I think
    catering for evening do.

People at work said ive gone mental!

I don't think you have gone mental, it's such a great achievement when you make things yourself, and it really brings a personal touch to your wedding.:D

    FLOWER GIRLS WANDS

    Wands: £1.24 each
Roses: left over from table decs
    Ribbon: left over
    Butterflies: left over
    Ribbon: £3

These are so easy to make - I wrapped the want in green flower tape first to pad it out a bit. The I wrapped the ribbon round. After that it's just a case of using a glue gun to stick on the roses and tie ribbons round to hide the joins.

Blimey I made so much stuff.
    Invitations
    Place cards
    Table plan
    Orders of Service
    My jewellery
    Bridesmaids tiaras and jewellery
    Centerpieces
    Guest book
    Postbox
    Ladies favours (necklaces)

Louise wired crystals can be a bit expensive. All you need is some jewellery wire, cutters, pliers and beads to make your own. That way you can get the coloured and sized beads you want on the coloured wireyou want.

I like to use long nosed pliers when doing bead work. I got my set of 5 pliers from a really cheap stall in the market and they are fine for light work, cost about £3 I think. Also pound shop do tools. Long nosed pliers are the ones that are long and thin and come to a point, good for fine work.

Its nice to get some reassurance on here! I think its all going to be wonderful actually! Go us! Heres to MSE, Home made, self styled eco individual weddings. I was talking to bestmate (bridesmaid) and she agrees its not too much of a tall order, people used to do all this kind of stuff before the wedding industry became a grotesque 20k each monster! and that was BEFORE the wonder if the internet and ebay.

    Exactly!:T

I have a cousin who's wedding cost in the region of 25k - she had a master of ceremonies, wedding organiser, posh food, the whole works, and didn't do a scrap of it herself.

It was all very impersonal and it wasn't the sort of 'do' where you can relax and enkoy yourself.

Our mortgage was 33k at the time...I just kept thinking what a chunk we could have paid off if we had that amount of money....:o:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

We always have DIY weddings within our family and I love them. When we married, 35yrs ago, our friends at church organised the reception. Mum and dad paid for bits and bobs as we were preparing and then dad paid the bill on the day for all the baking etc. The reception was delicious and mum and dad were shocked at the bill on the day. I was concerned as I had arranged it all and wanted to impress them with my skills and budgetting. There was a sign up sheet in the kitchen at church as people brough their assignment. My parents had said they could afford £50 and any more we had to pay. The total on the day was £12!! as so many people had donated what they had made. I remember the feeling still of what others did for us and I now try to Pay it Forward by doing my bit for the young brides at church. DIY weddings are so personal and very special as all the details reflect the couple. Well done all you brides for keeping your budget in control. We hear of many marriages breaking up sometimes before the credit card bill for the wedding is paid off.
