I bought a white chalk pen marker from Rymans for about £4. Am sure you can get them cheaper though. Also when I worked in a pub we had different colour ones for the menu boards.

I am also doing the mirror thing! Will be so much easier than printing them and can make last minute changes. not sure what to stand it on though, I thought an easel but will a cheap one take the weight and would rather not have to spend lots?? any ideas?

You can probably get online tutorials - check out youtube (I've found a brilliant make-up tutorial which I intend to use!). Also, get a papercraft magazine or two - they might not have a design you're particularly looking for, but you'll get an idea of how things go together, IYSWIM. Lastly, get yourself some cheap bits from a craft/stationary shop (wait for the sales) and have a play! If the first one looks like a blind five-year-old did it, just try again (hence getting cheap bits from the sales - don't worry about colours at this stage either, you only have to buy the 'proper stuff' in your colours).

Oh, and go for a simple design - a piece of card with a gorgeous ribbon attached can look beautiful and elegant - you don't really need to do much more than that :)

PS Please post some piccies (you know how we all love them) to show off when you've done them ;)

EDIT: Here are the results from a search for wedding invites on youtube. I can't vouch for the quality of any of the vids as I haven't seen them, but I hope they are of use to you.

Laura...has your brother in law thought of selling his hangers...theres not much supply and possibly lots of demand...ebay calling perhaps?
I did suggest to him to do that...he would get one or two sales I'm sure :)

I forget who asked but the wire i used for my vine was 26gauge, I think. I found a tutorial on You Tube which was very useful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RBWmZP4S-I

ok- this may strike people as a bit bonkers but my brother-in-law2be is making me a coat hanger to hang my wedding dress on so it looks nice for the picture the photographer will take of it hanging up... nicer than a plain plastic one anyway :rotfl:

This is the prototype (which I will keep for after the wedding) as I actually want it to say Mrs Mercer-to-be on it :)

I would buy one of those hangars!

My invites are really simple, just ivory folded card with an ivory paper insert. Bought a heart stamp from noolibird and a pink inkpad and (about £12 in total) will do one heart on outer cover and add a ribbon tie (ribbon from ebay, reaally cheap £25 for 250m to do invites and order of services). the card 'outers' were from hobbycraft, 50 for 4.99 including envelopes, good quality for the price. Inserts have to be printed on ivory paper and cut to size but have a guillotine at work for that and will be stuck in with a glue pen (not expensive). We are not doing various info inserts as we have a free wedding website with all that infor on so have just added the web details for that. Have to do order of services and they will be the same but A4 card folded to A5 so no guillotining involved. The heart stamp we are using on the menus and other bits at the venue so we have a theme.

check out the wedding type websites as they mostly have templates (confetti, hitched etc) to use, I have just adapted one to get my insert. There are also websites that actually have templates for really nice invites that you just alter the text on and print (cant remember the names though!). These are generally just single sided bits of card but I think look really nice.
