Here is a prototype of a hair vine I have made:

I sort of based it on this one from Carrie Yeo: http://www.carrieyeo.co.uk/listman/listings/l0153.shtml
It took me about an hour to make and the materials were about £13. I used 5ft sterling silver wire, clear swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls (cultured, but real-not plastic) and the vine is I reckon just over a foot in length. It looks nicer in real life than it does on the photographs.
What I actually want to do it make 3 longer ones and sort of plait them together so that it makes something a bit more dramatic like this:
because that is £595!!  (my dress only cost £630 :rotfl:)
Wow- White_Sapphire, making your own dress!! Good luck with that (I have zero skills at sewing and dressmaking

ok- this may strike people as a bit bonkers but my brother-in-law2be is making me a coat hanger to hang my wedding dress on so it looks nice for the picture the photographer will take of it hanging up... nicer than a plain plastic one anyway :rotfl:
This is the prototype (which I will keep for after the wedding) as I actually want it to say Mrs Mercer-to-be on it

That coat hanger looks great, Laura! Can your BIL2B make me one too?! :rotfl:
Can anyone recommend where I can get pens for writing on glass from? I want to do our table plan written onto a mirror and need to get some pens, but not sure where to get them from. Or if there are good ones and bad ones?! Any help or advice would be really appreciated!:j Debt Free 27.07.2011!! :j0 -

That hair vine is lovely! The dramatic one you have shown is the kind of thing I want too - I'm not a tiara kind of girl but want something awesome in my hair nonetheless! Let us know how yours progresses. One quick question: what thickness of wire have you used? I'm not sure what is the right one to go for, it's so confusing!
Thanks for the good luck re making my dress, I think I may need it! I went to see my parents this evening and discussed my pattern with my mum (who is also an amateur dressmaker, and my sewing teacher!) so it's all very exciting, but slightly daunting! I think I will need to stockpile cheap fabric for practising before cutting into posh silk :eek:That coat hanger looks great, Laura! Can your BIL2B make me one too?! :rotfl:

I think sharpies write on glass. Or have a look on some online art shops for reviews, and then buy the best ones cheap on ebay!

I'm making a hair vine at the moment too. Not for myself, for a friend. I got married ages ago, well it feels that way, but I would reccommend a 24 or 26 gauge wire. Finer than that will over twist and snap very easily, thicker that that is a b****r to twist. Don't forget to put in a loop or two as well to fix it into your hair using hair grips, especially at the ends.0
