thought id show off my cake that i made today - it's the good food wedding cake - 2nd tier.
Its for my birthday tomorrow so i thought i'd give it try - learnt lots of stuff like don't take off the greaseproof paper at the bottom of the cake. dont buttercream the bottom of the caks and assemble and decorate onthe thing that you are going to display on. All lessons i'd rather learn today then 2 days before the wedding.
I was going to leave it plain but my icing smoothing isnt great. I think ill use pearl dragees in the same pattern on the bottom tier and small white daisies on the 2nd tier and leave the top one plain.

Well done! The cake looks yummy! :T About the smoothness of the icing....I made my parents' 25th wedding anniversary cake (rich fruit cake) last august (got my revenge - i'm making mum make the 3 tier rich fruit cake for us
:D), and you are not the only one with problems there! Tbh i think unless you're an expert you're not going to get it perfect. I don't know what technique you used for smoothing it? I used a hot pallete knife - pour boiling water into a jug, leave knife in for 30 secs or something, then shake off and smooth immediately - you need the heat for it. I hope the final product turns out well! 0 -
The cake looks great...I was going to make my own but I'm too scared of the wobbly icing so I'm going to buy ones ready iced in white and then just decorate them...(the fun bit!)0
