yes benefits do not have to equal loud brash behaviour and excessive spending....most of the familys ive met abroad like this are actually hard workers who are sadly lacking in taste and manners maybe but usually are workers and to be fair like to spend time with their kids , very loudly i admit usually by the the pool bar:rolleyes:

well said............... just what I was starting to think, I was feeling a bit annoyed with people on this forum slagging of certain working classes. Its great if you can afford a 5 start resort but unfortunately some of us who are not working or who are unable to work through ill health cannot afford such luxuries so have to go to the so called ''chav'' resorts. actually alot ( not all)of these so called ''chavs' have alot more manners and morals than '' upper class people''.
Life is just too short, so if you can actually afford to get away and in ggod health then just make the most of it wherever it is.

ooh, this is promising ...we are going to Charante Maritime on hols this year and hoping for a chav free time!

any tips on good places to go...?

Yes! Go to Aubeterre- its a lovely little square with a couple of local bars and antique shops and a restaurant or two, it also has a beautiful church that actually sits in the cliffside. You wouldnt go there for more than a day (not enough to do) but in the Summer the locals build a man-made beach along the lake where people go to cool off- its great. Definately NO chavs there just french locals who are really friendly.

Also, Bordeaux there is a beautiful gothic castle with a restaurant in one of the wings- amazing food and even more amazing wine as you can imagine! I was lucky enough to be taken there for Valentine's day a couple of years ago, be sure to book though as you can never get in! I cant remember the name of it though! Damn! Will have a think about that and post it once I remember.

I am actually quite suprised that this post lasted as many pages as it did before someone got on the defensive as per above- it was only a matter of time!

Typical chav - Holding in contempt anyone who can afford to holiday well and assuming all people who earn a decent wage talk posh and leave their kids.

That same small mindedness is probably why i holiday on far away white sandy beaches eating freshly caught Lobster, washed down with a fine wine, whilst you eat fish and chips in Benidorm washed down with an out of date Carling.;)

if that was aimed at me in paticular i have 3 people agreeing:rolleyes:
my comment wasnt aimed at you as you have pesumably read my earlier post giving you usefull advice in picking out a holiday . it was aimed at the comment presumming people whom are on benefits are all chavs...this isnt allways the case is it:rolleyes:
i have nothing to be defensive about, oh is a head chef whom has worked in the hyatt in birming dubai and Israel for 14 years so has a fair understanding of how tourists from a higher social class behave, we could be snobby people but arent:confused:.

Fair enough, I obviously interpreted your post wrong as I too am in agreement with the fact that not everyone who is on benefits are chavs but to be fair unfortunately; 99% of them are.
I was brought up by a single mum on benefits so I feel I am at liberty to say this because where I grew up practically the whole community were breeding children for an easy life with no intention of getting a job and working hard for a living. My mum was on benefits for the shortest possible time and has worked hard in her job ever since I started school. What I mean is the fact that so far the previous 6 pages have all been a bit of a p*ss-take and light hearted thats all.

I can recommend Rethymnon in Crete as very few Brits go there, it's mainly Scandinavians and Dutch. Also no British breakfasts/bars/kareoke etc.

The tourists are in the main, either young couples, with or without small children or older couples and the atmosphere is very laid back. It's a completely safe place to walk around, the beautiful beach is within walking distance and there are lovely shops too.

We have a small apartment there in a Greek village on the edge of the town and absolutely love it.
