My limit was increased to £1500 on Jan 31st - exactly One year from getting the card. As I have now been on £1500 for six months - should I expect an increase on 31 July ? - wonder what it might be

Hi,
I got a vanquis card to help us through last Christmas, in December.
Only got a £250 limit.
Didn't receive the Feb 2009 statement and got a phone call from them advising that payment was late and that I had incurred a £12 charge. Told them about non-receipt of statement and paid the minimum payment together with the £12 charge.
They've reported to Equifax a complete set of "0's" so all well and good in that respect, but we've had no increase in limit.... still £250.
We are only paying the minimum payment (due some extra cash next month which will help to pay balance off) will this, together with the late payment mean we can forget about any increase in limit?
CheersCapital one £200 - bal nil. Aqua £350 - bal nil
Vanquis limit [STRIKE]£250[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£750[/STRIKE] £1250 - bal £450. Nat West overdraft limit - £300, unused. JD Willaims limit [STRIKE]£400 [/STRIKE] [STRIKE] £600 [/STRIKE] £900 - bal £90.
Very limit £400 - balance £329 (buy now pay 2011!)0 -
I only got increases in my credit limits on my Vanquis and Capital One Classic cards once I paid them off in full for at least 6 months in a row. Making partial payments (higher than the minimum payment, but not covering all the balance) didn't seem to get me anywhere with increases.
My Vanquis went from £500 to £1250, and my cap one classic went from £200 to £800.Vanquis- Limit £1250, balance £0
Capital One Classic- Limit £800, balance £0
Natwest Current Account- £800 OD limit, approx £600 OD
Loan- £3300, will be paid off by Dec 09
Student Loan- paid off Dec 09 (That's £150 a month extra! Woohoo)
Empire Catalogue Account- £750 limit, balance £300 -

so the method works then, i.e. you should be on a limit of £1000+ after 1yr. Excellent..... so £2250 coming up for you then matey :eek:2010 - year of the troll

Full payment doesn't affect increases. People with a balance are actually good customers (i.e. we pay a lot!).... bear that in mind. If you prove you pay regularly, they will lend more to earn more....:D2010 - year of the troll

My Vanquis statement was meant to be produced on the 19th. It's now the 21st and still no statement produced.0

Sorry yes I did ask and he confirmed what we already knew that everyone gets increases at set times, although this is not the case if you miss payments and mess around with the account such as withdrawing cash all the time.
So in a nutshell they do not take a feed from the CRA - all increases are static and work the same for everyone. You can negotiate the APR when you are a gold customer, if they decline your request it is because they still deem you a risk - i.e. not quite 100% mainstream!
This means that within the first 6 months you should be on a £500 limit
within a year you should be at £1250
within 18 months you should be at £1750
and after 2yrs you'll be on £2k +
Similar to £100 per month - if you work it out like that!
That is the basis of the chat, he did say some people get an increase after 4 months, others may be 6 months (although he said it is from the date you took account, not statement date) so best to check the CRA and the actual date shown here as the 'start date' will be the increase date. I mentioned that some people get an increase on month 7 and he said no, its always 6 but to use the date account started not statement dates or it will be on the 7th statement, but really 6 months since opening.
In laymans terms this means the following, assuming I opened account on 01/01/07:
02.07.07 - should be on a £500 limit
03.01.08 - should be on a £1250 limit
04.07.08 - should be on a £1750 limit
05.01.09 - should be on a £2000 limit
Make sense.....?
Hi All, ive had my vanquis card since 2004, started on 250 - and now after a couple of increase its now 1k and has been for over 3 years now, I have kept my account in good order always and therefore I dont think its as straight forward on what your figures suggest, ie I also have a mate who has one with a 200 limit and always kept it good and never had an increase in 3 years.
Sorrry to ruin things for some of you but u need to have a few sides of what has actually happened, from mine and my mates that isDmp Mutual Support thread member No 820
