I just rang Sky, asked to remove the Sports package and they did so without giving me any offers or anything. Fair enough I suppose, I'm still saving money that I would have wasted had I not seen this article!

Just done the same and they offered me a reduction of £15 per month for the next two months. I think I can get better so said I would 'think about it'.

I'll try again next week to see if I can get a better deal.

Dont use that number for Setanta. You will eventually get transferred to retentions in Newcastle. Go direct to the retentions department 0191 5013482 and save youself time.

I used 028 30824023 and got straight to the right dept, but they did ask where I got the number from and I just said the Internet.

I called Sky tonight to cancel my Sports package. All they offered was 10% off for 6 months which I thought an insult for a long serving customer. So I cancelled anyway even though I didn't want to. I'll watch cricket highlights on terrestrial TV and listen to the radio. I won't resubscribe unless they offer me a good deal to return.
  • Thanks everyone for tips. Used 01506 831609 for sky, was engaged for a while. Once I got through I said I wanted to cancel Sports due to cost and got transferred to the 'programming department' (better than paying for 0845 though). Got through to a really helpful guy (Gary I think).

I have Sky Sports, Broadband, Sky Talk (inc free Talk Unlimited til Aug) at £49.50 per month (39.50 TV, Free Broadband, 10.00 line rental), been a customer for 5 years. Am tied in to broadband and phone til August.

    Got offered 2 deals:
    1. 20% off for 6 months for TV package (saving of £47.50)
    2. Save £47 over the next two months

I took the second offer as I thought I might try haggling for a cheap HD box in the autumn.

I rang Sky just after the last Premier League game was played to cancel the sports and was not offered anything.

After downgrading I usually get an offer through the post after a month offering me half price Sports again for 3 months.

I've been with Sky for 2 years and for 18 months of that I've had half price Sports (and movies) depending on the offer.
    Cashback earned
    Quidco : £858 :)
    Pigsback : £20 and a Beatles CD.

I'll be ringing them tomorrow night - I had already been planning to do this but this thread serves as a good reminder - currently paying close to £60 for Sky World, Multiroom and Broadband so any reduction offer will probably save me quite a bit.

Setanta, I dont trust them, they are defaulting on payments. I dont think I will be subscribing to them any time soon.

I already have my line rental with sky set at £4 a month for 12months.
Just rang them now to downgrade the Sports package-told them it was for summer and may upgrade when football season starts again. was given 2 options:
1.remove sports taking monthly payment from £38.50 to £20.50 per month (probably only for 2 months)=saving of £36
2.keep sports package and pay £30.50 for 6 months = saving of £48 plus still keep sports.

    Went for option 2 :j
Thanks guys for reminding me to do this!
